Giles Eclipses Two Milestones in 3-2 Win over Union

HUNTSVILLE | Highlighted by a pair of milestones being eclipsed by senior Kirsten Giles, The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team notched a 3-2 win (25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-12) over Union in a Gulf South Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. UAH improves to 19-9 (7-3 GSC), while UU dips to 12-14 (2-9 GSC).
 
Turning Point
- After Union forced a fifth set with a 25-19 win in the fourth stanza, UAH took an early 6-3 lead in the fifth en route to a 15-12 win in the fifth for the 3-2 victory in the match.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The UAH attack was paced by Caroline Sanford with 18 kills on a .400 hitting percentage, followed by fellow Birmingham, Alabama, native Anna Claire Johnson with 15 successful swats.
- A total of five Chargers had seven kills or more.
- Giles registered a double-double in the victory with a team-high 45 assists and 17 digs.
- Johnson also joined Giles with in double-double territory with 14 digs in addition to her 15 kills.
- Haley Hop anchored the Chargers defense with a team-best 18 digs.
- UAH hit .250 for the match, which included a .552 swing rate in the first and a .393 hitting percentage in the fifth and decisive set.
- Sanford finished with a team-high six total blocks.

- Giles eclipsed 3000 assists and 1000 digs in her career during the win.
- Giles' 17 digs are a season-high and she now has 11 double-doubles with digs and assists in 2017.
- Sanford's 18 kills are a career-best for the sophomore.

- UAH looks ahead to the start of the four-match road trip beginning next weekend with trips to West Alabama on Friday and Mississippi College on Saturday.
