UAH Rolls to Big Win Over Lynn in 2017-18 Opener

FLORENCE, Ala. | A terrific first and second quarters set the tone as The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team cruised to a 69-46 season-opening win over Lynn on Friday night on the campus of North Alabama. The Chargers start the year at 1-0, while LU begins at 0-1.
 
Turning Point
-UAH outscored the Fighting Knights 17-4 in the opening 10 minutes to establish firm in the contest, and the lead would balloon to 27-4 by the 6:26 mark of the second quarter.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Chandler Elder led the Chargers with 17 points on the night, going 4-for-7 from the field and a strong 9-for-10 at the charity stripe, and the senior also began her final season in the Blue and White by grabbing seven rebounds.
-Also scoring in double figures for UAH was Baylee Johnson who poured in 15, while Katie Speegle nearly logged a double-double with eight points to go along with her team-best 11 rebounds.
-Taylor Kimber dished out a team-high four assists in the victory.
-In total, nine different players scored for the Chargers.
-Lynn was paced by Jaylen Snipes and Juju Uloma as they both scored 14 in the game.
-On the night, the Chargers outshot the Fighting Knights by a 42.9 percent to 27.7 percent clip, and UAH won the rebounding battle by a margin of 45-39.
 
Inside the Flow
-After Lynn scored the game's first point on a free throw at the 7:34 mark of the opening period, the Chargers would score 27 of the next 30 points in the game to go up 27-4 after an Elder layup at the 6:26 mark of the second, and an Allie Bolton 3-pointer in the final minute before half would give UAH its largest of the night to that point at 42-16 at the break.
-The lead would grow to as many as 29 in the third quarter, and the Chargers would enjoy that advantage – their largest of the night – just over two minutes into the fourth quarter at 60-31 before the Fighting Knights closed the game on a bit of a run to produce the 69-46 final.
 
Noteworthy
-The margin of victory for UAH is its largest since beating Lane 103-55 on Nov. 23, 2015.
-The 11 rebounds are a career-best for Speegle whose previous high was 10 in a game against Union on Jan. 7 of last season.
-For Elder, Friday marks the 32nd time in her career that she has reached double digits in scoring.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will look to build upon the momentum generated by Friday's victory on Saturday when the Chargers take on Kentucky State. Tip-off at UNA is slated for 1:30 p.m.
