Chargers Hang with Jacksonville State in Sunday Exhibition

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team opened up its exhibition schedule on Sunday, traveling to Division I member Jacksonville State who was a 63-47 winner over the Chargers.

Turning Point
-The Gamecocks outscored UAH 37-23 in the second and third quarters to take control of the contest after the Chargers had started out strong, leading 14-13 at the end of the first.

Inside the Box Score
-Chandler Elder had a big day for the Chargers as the senior poured in 18 on the strength of a 6-for-11 showing from the floor to lead all scorers in the game, and she was also a perfect 5-for-5 at the charity stripe.
-Also scoring in double figures was Bayle Johnson who nailed a pair of 3-pointers en route to scoring 10 on the afternoon.
-Both Loren Foster and Aryn Sanders had strong games on the glass, leading the Chargers with six rebounds each, while five other UAH players recorded four boards to help the team total 36 in the game compared to JSU's 39.
-The Gamecocks outshot UAH by a 37.5 percent to 33.3 percent clip, and the Chargers held the hosts to just a 13.6 percent mark from beyond the arc in the game.
-Brianna Perry scored 13 to lead the way offensively for JSU.

Inside the Flow
-Elder wasted no time starting the contest off strong as she scored the game's first four points, and though the Gamecocks would go up 13-10 at the 2:10 mark of the first quarter, a jumper from Katie Speegle and a pair of free throws from Johnson gave UAH a 14-13 lead at the end of the first.
-The lead for UAH would grow back to as many as four in the second quarter with Elder's layup with 4:33 remaining until the half making it a 23-19 advantage, but the hosts then went on an 11-2 run to end the period to go into the break up 30-25.
-The Gamecocks pushed its lead into double-digits just under five minutes into the third frame at 38-27, and that advantage would grow to as many as 19 in the fourth.

Next Time Out
