UAH Drops Sunday Contest at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 62-55 contest at West Alabama. The Chargers slip to 5-2 (1-1 Gulf South Conference), while UWA improves to 3-5 (1-1 GSC).

Turning Point
-After Chandler Elder hit a 3-pointer to put the Chargers ahead 44-43 with 7:49 left in the game, West Alabama scored nine of the next 11 points to go in front 53-46 at the 3:22 mark, building up a lead that could not be overcome in the game's final minutes.

Inside the Box Score
-UAH was led on the afternoon by Elder who knocked down seven shots from the field and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe en route to scoring 24, and the senior logged a double-double as she also grabbed 10 rebounds in the game.
-Joining Elder in double figures was Loren Foster who scored 14 as she was 4-for-8 from the floor including three 3-pointers.
-J'Nyiah Daniels scored 19 to lead the Tigers.
-After shooting 47.8 percent in the second half, West Alabama outshot the Chargers by a 37.0 percent to 28.8 percent clip, and UWA also outrebounded UAH by a 43-41 margin.
-UAH limited itself to just 10 turnovers in the game and turned UWA's 14 giveaways into 13 points.

Inside the Flow
-UAH was awarded a pair of administrative technical free throws to start the game, starting a stretch that saw the guests score 10 of the game's first 11 points to build up a 10-1 lead by the 5:28 mark of the first quarter, and the Chargers would maintain their advantage through the opening period going into the second holding a 14-6 edge.
-The Tigers then outscored UAH by a 12-7 margin in the second frame, cutting the visiting team's advantage to just 21-18 at the halftime break.
-West Alabama scored the first four points of the third quarter to take its first lead of the game, eventually leading by five at 31-26 near the midway point of the frame, and though UAH would use a 6-0 run to go back ahead briefly, the Tigers would lead 37-36 at the end of the stanza.
-The lead then exchanged hands four times in the first 2:30 of the fourth, and though UAH would fall behind by as many as seven, the visitors did narrow their deficit to just three with 1:14 left after a pair of Foster free throws made it 56-53.
-West Alabama then used six successful free throws to outscore UAH 6-2 in the waning moments to secure the victory.

Noteworthy
-The double-double for Elder is her second in the team's past three games, and the senior now owns nine for her career.
-The 10 turnovers for UAH match a season low for the team as the Chargers also committed just 10 miscues against Trevecca Nazarene on Nov. 16.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be off until Saturday when the team steps out of GSC play to welcome Claflin to Huntsville. Tip-off at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall is slated for 2 p.m.
