UAH Hits 11 Threes in Saturday Victory over Claflin

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team won 59-47 on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall over visiting Claflin. UAH improves to 6-2, while CU slips to 5-5.
 
Turning Point
- The Chargers started out the third quarter on an 18-9 run over the Panthers as the squad would lead by 10 at the end of the quarter on the way to the 59-47 win at Spragins Hall.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Aryn Sanders paced the Chargers in scoring with a game-high 14 points, highlighted by the sophomore going 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.
- Sanders also led UAH with six total rebounds while chipping in two assists to rank tied for second on the roster Saturday.
- The Chargers had two additional players reach double-digit scoring as Baylee Johnson posted 11 points and Chandler Elder recorded 13 tallies.
- Elder shined on three-pointers as she went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc while also leading the defense with two steals.
- Freshman Emiline Payne was efficient in her 21 minutes on the floor, shooting 4-of-7 from the floor for nine points in addition to three rebounds and three assists.
- As a team, the Chargers shot 45.8 percent (11-24) on three-pointers.
 
Inside the Flow
- After Claflin opened the quarter with four unanswered points, UAH went on a 7-0 run to lead 7-4 before the Panthers outscored UAH 7-3 over the final 5:17 for an 11-10 advantage after 10 minutes.
- The Chargers were able to generate a lead over the visiting Panthers thanks to a 9-0 run in the middle of the second quarter as the Blue & White took a 26-23 lead into the half.
- UAH extended its lead to 10 points at 49-39 at the end of the third quarter, after beginning the period on an 18-9 run.
- Both sides scored 10 points apiece in the fourth quarter as the Chargers hung on for the 59-47 victory on Saturday.
 
Noteworthy
- The Chargers' 11 three-pointers are the most in a game this season.
- UAH is now 3-0 against SIAC opponents this season.
