UAH Tops Miles in Both Games of Doubleheader

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team topped Miles in both games of a doubleheader by scores of 10-2 and 7-3 on Wednesday afternoon at historic Rickwood Field. UAH improves to 5-7, while MC slips to 6-5.

Game Changer
- Brady Bedingfield had his strongest performance in the Blue & White going 4-for-4 with a home run, a team-high three RBI and two runs scored.
 
Inside the Box Score
- After taking a 3-0 lead with one run in the third and two runs in the fourth, the Chargers amassed a six-run rally in the top of the fifth to lead 9-0 which was highlighted by a three-run homer by Bedingfield and a two-run blast for Ben Rhodes.
- Miles dipped into the UAH lead with one run in the bottom half of the fifth to make it 9-1 Chargers, before Wright Hackett's RBI groundout in the sixth extended the lead to 10-1.
- The Golden Bears tacked on one run in the seventh to bring the game to its 10-2 final.
- UAH totaled 16 base hits in the victory, led by Bedingfield with four base hits followed by Rhodes with a trio of hits.
- Bedingfield paced the team with three RBI, while Jay Copeland and Rhodes shared the second spot on the team with two RBI apiece.
- Harper Case notched his first victory in the Blue & White hurling 4.1 shutout innings with one hit allowed and zero walks.
 
Noteworthy
- Bedingfield set a career-high with in runs (2), hits (4) and RBI (3), while hitting his first career homer with the Chargers.
- The Chargers 16 hits were the second consecutive game in which the squad had 15 hits or more.

Game Changer
- AJ Walden led the squad at the plate in game two going 2-for-4 with one run, two RBI and a stolen base.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Miles jumped on the board first in the bottom of the first with one run, which UAH negated quickly in the top of the second on a RBI single by Cory Price to knot the game at 1-1.
- The Chargers were able to take a 4-1 heading to the bottom of the sixth as Justin Ware notched an RBI on a sac fly in the fifth before Bedingield had an RBI single and Walden scored on a balk in the sixth inning.
- The Golden Bears dug into the Chargers lead with a pair of runs in the home half of the sixth to make it a one-run game at a 4-3 UAH lead.
- However, a two-RBI single by Walden in the seventh followed by a sac fly from Bedingfield gave the Chargers the 7-3 victory.
- UAH registered seven base hits in the victory, paced by Walden with two hits.
- Both Walden and Bedingfield had a team-high two RBI.
- Will Scoggins made the start for the Chargers, turning in 4.0 innings with zero earned runs allowed and one strikeout. Scoggins improved to 1-0 with the win.
 
Noteworthy
- The Chargers have now won three games in a row for the first time in 2017.
 
Next Time Out
- UAH returns to Gulf South Conference action at Charger Park this weekend for a three-game series against West Georgia. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is 1 p.m. as well as the series finale on Sunday.
