FINALLY HOME: The No. 19 UAH softball team will play its first home series of the season this weekend, staying in conference play by welcoming West Georgia for a three-game set, and both the Saturday doubleheader and the single game on Sunday are slated for 1 p.m. starts. UAH enters the weekend at 11-4 (2-1 Gulf South Conference).
Â
RECAPPING LAST WEEK: The Chargers won their first GSC series of the season by taking two out of three at Lee.
Kaitlyn Bannister was particularly strong during the series as she had eight hits in 11 at-bats while scoring four times and driving in four runs.
Â
RECORD CHASER: Bannister is etching her name into the UAH record books, and the next record she could break could be the career RBI mark as she enters play this weekend with 223 in her tenure in Huntsville, and that mark is just 10 behind the program record of 233 established in 2000-03 by current assistant coach
Melanie Carter.
Â
GETTING ON BASE: Though the Chargers are just eighth in the league in batting average, the team's on-base percentage – thanks to a league-best 71 walks – is the third-best in the conference at .416. Bannister presently is third in the league with a .576 OBP, while
Haley Thompson ranks is sixth with a .557 mark.
Â
SITTIN' 'EM DOWN: UAH continues to feature one of the best pitching staffs in the GSC headlined by
Emily Glover and
Tyler Harrison who are the top two in the league in strikeouts with 46 and 43, respectively. On the season, the Chargers have at least three strikeouts in every game as the team has totaled 93.
Â
ABOUT WEST GEORGIA: The Wolves visit Huntsville at 6-6 overall and 1-2 in GSC play, and the team is 2-2 on the road. Marley Stowers is batting a team-best .512 with five homers and 13 RBI, while Kathryn Woody is leading the team in the circle with a 3-2 record to go along with a 1.24 ERA and an opposing batting average of .233.
Â
