Records Fall as UAH Routs Visiting Emmanuel

HUNTSVILLE | It was a banner day at Charger Park for The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team as it set a program record for goals in an 18-3 rout of visiting Emmanuel. The Chargers improve to 1-2, while the Lions fall to 0-3.
 
Turning Point
-Collin Wilcox and James Cox scored in the first two minutes of the game, starting a quarter that would see UAH outscore the guests by a 6-1 clip to set the tone for the remainder of the contest.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Luke LeVette and Collin Wilcox both scored five times to lead the Chargers on the afternoon, and LeVette added three assists to finish with eight points. Wilcox finished with six points after also recording an assist.
-Kevin Coppinger had a five-point game on the strength of three goals and two assists, while Jordan Robertson scored twice and added an assist to total three points.
-Both Jack Utrevis and Bryant Baus had a goal and an assist in the contest, while Cox picked up the remaining UAH score.
-Michl McNeil earned the win in the cage for the Chargers, recording four saves in the victory.
-Jake Fowler had a strong day in faceoffs, winning 17 of 25.
-Coppinger paced the team with six ground balls.
-For the contest, UAH outshot the guests by a 45-18 clip, and the Chargers held a wide 31-7 edge in shots that were on target. The home team was a perfect 10-for-10 in clears, and the squad picked up 42 ground balls to just 27 for the Lions.
-The Chargers were 3-for-3 in extra-man opporutnies.
 
Inside the Flow
-After the Wilcox and Cox goals to open the game, LeVette and Wilcox both scored a pair of back-to-back goals to put the Chargers up 6-1 at the end of the first, and a pair of Coppinger strikes bookended two goals from LeVette in the second to lift UAH to a 10-1 lead at the half.
-Emmanuel scored the first goal of the third quarter, but the Chargers then scored eight straight before the guests capped the scoring to produce the 18-3 final.
 
Noteworthy
-LeVette establishes the program record for points in a game with eight – one better than Coppinger's six-point showing against Davis & Elkins on April 3 of last year.
-LeVette and Wilcox also establish the program record for goals in a game with their five scores. The previous best was four which was done three times a season ago.
-In addition to the new single-game record for goals in a game by the team, UAH also sets the record for ground balls with the 42, and both the shots total of 45 and shots on goal mark of 31 are new program-best marks.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be back at it on March 4 on the road when the team travels to Lees-McRae for an 11 a.m. CST tilt.
