UAH Slips in Series Finale Against West Georgia

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team was tripped up in the Gulf South Conference series finale by a final score of 11-4 against West Georgia at Charger Park. UAH slips to 7-8 (3-3 GSC), while West Georgia improves to 6-7 (1-5 GSC).
 
Game-Changer
- Senior Trey Mathis paced the Chargers offense going 2-for-3 at the plate with a team-high two RBI in addition to one walk.
 
Inside the Box Score
- West Georgia opened the scoring with one run in the top of the first, but UAH rebounded with three runs in the second on a RBI single by Ben Rhodes and a two-run base hit by Trey Mathis to lead 3-1.
- After going scoreless for four innings, the Wolves posted a three-run rally to overtake the Chargers with a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth.
- The Chargers tied the contest at 4-4 on a solo home run to left by junior AJ Walden, but the Wolves erupted for six runs in the eighth – highlighted by a grand slam by Price Peters – and a single run in the ninth to give the game its 11-4 final.
- Will Scoggins was tagged with the loss after allowing three earned runs in 1.1 innings out of the bullpen.
- Riley Camp made the start on the mound for the Chargers, turning in 5.2 innings pitched with four runs allowed, three strikeouts and zero walks.
- UAH totaled 11 hits in the setback, as Tanner Burns, Mathis, Rhodes and Walden had a team-high two hits apiece.
 
Noteworthy
- Walden's homer was his first home run at Charger Park this season, which gives him 26 in his career at UAH.
- The Chargers have totaled 10 hits or more in a game five times this season.
