PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team took both games of the Gulf South Conference series-opening doubleheader on Saturday by scores of 6-1 and 2-1 over West Florida at Jim Spooner Field. UAH improves to 10-11 (6-5 GSC), while UWF dips to 10-10 (5-6 GSC).

Game-Changer
- In his second start of the season, junior
Heath McRae twirled his strongest outing of the campaign with 7.2 innings with one run allowed and six strikeouts which led the Chargers to the series-opening victory.

- The Chargers offense kicked in gear early with a four-run rally in the top of the first, as
AJ Walden,
Trey Mathis,
Jay Copeland and
Wright Hackett each notched an RBI in the opening frame.
- West Florida got one run back in the bottom half of the first to cut the UAH lead to 4-1, but UAH rebounded to push across two more runs on a RBI single up the middle by
Ben Rhodes.
- McRae then stifled the West Florida offense for the remainder of his start until
Jake Bracewell worked a scoreless final 1.1 innings with one strikeout and zero walks for the 6-1 victory. McRae improves to 2-0 on the season with the win.
- UAH posted a total of eight hits in the win, paced by a 3-for-5 performance by
Justin Ware in addition to a team-high two runs scored. Ware also had the squad's lone extra-base hit with a double.
- Four different Chargers scored runs in the contest, while five players had one RBI or more.

Lance Cleveland delivered a two-RBI single in the top of the fourth to give UAH a 2-0 advantage.

Taylor Clemons worked a scoreless seventh for his fourth save of the season.
