UAH Reaches Title Game with 96-82 Victory

HUNTSVILLE | For the fifth time in the past seven seasons, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team has punched its ticket to the NCAA Division II South Regional championship game after the Chargers defeated Barry 96-82 on Sunday night at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.

Top-seeded UAH will now take on seventh-seeded Rollins in the regional final at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Spragins.

Children 17 and under will be admitted to Tuesday's game at a discounted rate of $5 with adult tickets costing $15 for the championship game.

Turning Point
-With the Bucs narrowing the deficit to just four with 17:19 remaining in the game, the Chargers went on a 20-6 run over the next nearly nine minutes to completely take control of the contest.

Inside the Box Score
-Seab Webster was tremendous for the Chargers as he recorded a double-double with 30 points and 11 rebounds while also dishing out three assists, blocking a shot, and picking up a steal.
-Also terrific in the game was Kip Owens as he went 7-for-8 overall and 6-for-7 from beyond the arc on his way to scoring 20.
-Three other Chargers scored in double figures with Troy Saxton scoring 14, Justin Ward adding 11, and Chayse Elliott chipping in with 10.
-Ward also grabbed nine rebounds, while Saxton snagged five and earned six assists.
-Leading the Bucs was Adrian Gonzalez who scored 25.
-The Chargers shot at a 54.2 percent clip while using a strong defensive effort to limit the Bucs to just 35.5 percent shooting on the night, and UAH also won the rebounding battle by a 44-42 clip.

Inside the Flow
-Barry jumped out to an early 12-2 lead and held that same 10-point margin again at 16-6 at the 15:23 mark, but a 13-2 run for UAH over a span of just under four minutes put the Chargers ahead for the first time in the contest at 19-18 with 11:30 left in the opening half.
-The Bucs would go back up by five at 24-19 with 9:38 remaining until the half, but UAH had another strong spurt as the team scored 15 of the next 20 to go up 34-29 with 5:38 on the clock.
-After Barry pulled back within one with just under three minutes in the half, the Chargers would outscore Barry 9-4 to end the half with Webster hitting a circus-style 3-pointer near the expiration of the period to make it 48-42 with the teams going into the locker room.
-Coming out of the half, the visitors would close the gap to just four on a pair of occasions, but with the Chargers leading 53-49, the team went on a 20-6 run over the next 8:51 to go up 73-55 at the 8:28 mark of the second.
-UAH would go up by as many as 22 when Owens hit one of his treys to push the Chargers in front 81-59 with 6:46 left in the game, and though the Bucs would narrow the gap to 11, they could pull no closer as Owens emphatically ended the scoring on a breakaway dunk in the final minute to produce the 96-82 final.

Noteworthy
-The trip to the regional final is also UAH's second consecutive, and the team has reached the championship game each of the four times that the Chargers have been the top seed and host of the tournament.
-The double-double for Webster marks his 10th of the season, and he scored at least 30 points for the fifth time on the year.
-The 20 points for Owens matches his career-high, and it also represents his best total of the season. Additionally, the six 3-pointers is a career-best mark for the junior.
-Ward establishes a career-best rebounding night with the nine.
