Florida Southern Earns 21-10 Win in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team dropped its road contest at Florida Southern on Thursday, falling 21-10 to the hosts. The Chargers slip to 3-5 on the season, while FSC improves to 5-3.
 
Turning Point
-With the game 3-2 in favor of the Mocs with 5:14 left in the first quarter, the home team scored five straight and eight of the next 11 to go into the half with a significant 11-5 lead.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Adam Zois had his best game as a Charger, scoring three times in the contest, while each of James Cox, Luke LeVette, and Jack Utrevis scored twice for the guests.
-Kevin Coppinger added a goal and an assist, and Daniel Wilson, Jr., also picked up a helper on the day.
-Colton Nall picked up a team-best six ground balls in the contest.
-Jake Fowler went 16-for-32 in face-offs.
-In taking the setback in the cage for UAH, Michl McNeil made 18 saves.
-Florida Southern outshot the Chargers by a 51-24 margin including a 39-17 edge in shots that were on target.
-UAH was 1-for-2 in extra-man opportunities, while the Mocs converted on both chances they earned.
-Florida Southern was 19-for-23 in clears, while the Chargers were good on 13 of their clearing chances.
 
Inside the Flow
-Two of the goals came from Zois came in the game's opening minutes as he tied the game at 1-1 at the 8:42 mark and cut the Charger deficit to one at 3-2 with 5:14 left in the first quarter.
-FSC then went on the 5-0 run before the teams alternated goals with Cox, Coppinger, and Utrevis all scoring in the second quarter en route to the 11-5 score in favor of the Mocs at the half.
-The Mocs then scored five straight to tally the only goals of the third quarter to go up 16-5, but the Chargers then scored four straight to open the fourth with Cox, Zois, Utrevis, and LeVette all scoring in the first five minutes to make it a 16-9 game.
-The hosts then scored another five in a row before LeVette's second with under two minutes left created the 21-10 final.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be back in action on Tuesday at Charger Park when Adams State visits. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
