BACK AT CHARGER PARK: The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team returns to action this weekend in the Rocket City, welcoming Delta State for a Gulf South Conference series that starts with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and concludes with a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Chargers enter the weekend at 17-9 (7-5 GSC).

RECAPPING LAST WEEK: The Chargers went on the always-tough road trip to West Florida and dropped each of the three-game set, falling by narrow decisions of 3-2 and 4-2 on Saturday before taking a 10-2 setback in the series finale on Sunday.

AROUND THE GSC: Valdosta State continues to sit at the top of the league standings at 10-2 in conference play, while Lee and Shorter are locked in a tie for second at 8-4. The Chargers are tied for fourth with West Alabama at 7-5, and North Alabama and Mississippi College are even at 6-6 along with West Georgia to create a three-way tie for sixth.

STILL RECORD CHASING: After establishing the UAH record for career RBI with 234 last weekend at UWF, Kaitlyn Bannister's eyes are now set on the GSC record. That mark is presently 239 which was set from 2009-12 by Valdosta State's Marti Littlefield. On the season, Bannister ranks first in the GSC with a .553 batting average, and her 34 RBI rank third.

CIRCLE SUCCESS: The team's strong year in the circle continues as the Chargers lead the conference with a 1.91 ERA, have posted a GSC-best six shutouts, have surrendered a league-low 64 runs, and have struck out a league-high 155. Additionally, opponents are hitting just .232 off of Charger pitching which is also the best mark in the conference.

TWICE AS NICE: UAH is also having a solid year defensively, tying for third in the GSC in fewest errors with 26, and the team is tied for the best mark in the conference in double plays as the Chargers have turned 10 on the season.

ABOUT DELTA STATE: The Lady Statesmen visit the Rocket City at 11-12 overall and 5-7 in GSC play, and the team is 2-5 in road games on the year. Jordan Jones is batting a team-best .417 to go along with 13 RBI, and that RBI total is matched by Madison Zoeller for the best total on the team. In the circle, DSU has a staff ERA of 3.53 with Mari Alex Sandridge leading the team with a 1.56 ERA to go along with a team-best 26 strikeouts.

SERIES HISTORY: UAH leads the all-time series with DSU by a 40-15 margin after the Lady Statesmen took two of three in Cleveland last year while also winning a match-up in the GSC tournament. The two teams last met in Huntsville in 2015, and the Chargers swept that three-game series.
