AGAIN AT CHARGER PARK: The UAH softball team returns to action at home this weekend, taking on Shorter with a schedule adjusted due to weather so that the series starts with a doubleheader at 5 p.m. on Friday and concludes with a single game at noon on Saturday. The Chargers enter the weekend at 20-9 overall, 10-5 in the Gulf South Conference, and 6-2 at Charger Park.

AROUND THE GSC: The stakes are significant this weekend for UAH and Shorter as both teams are tied for second in the GSC at 10-5, three games behind first-place Valdosta State who is sitting at 13-2 on the year. Behind the Chargers and Hawks are three teams tied for fourth with identical 9-6 records in Lee, North Alabama, and Mississippi College. West Florida is in seventh at 9-7, while eighth is currently held by West Alabama at 7-8.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK: The Chargers swept aside Delta State in last week's three-game set in the Rocket City thanks to some fantastic pitching that saw UAH rack up 25 strikeouts during the series while walking none.

MOVING 'EM OVER: On the year, the Chargers have advanced runners 52.4 percent of the team with 261 advancements in 498 opportunities, with
Ashley Cornell having the highest success rate in advancing runners 19 out of the 28 chances she has had to register 67.9 percent. Additionally, the Chargers have advanced a runner 83 times with an out, and the team continues to be successful in scoring runs with two outs as
Kaitlyn Bannister has 12 two-out RBI to help the team total 62 on the season compared to just 23 for the opposition.

SITTING 'EM DOWN: The Chargers continue to pace the GSC in strikeouts with 180 as a team, and that averages out to nearly a strikeout per inning as the team is averaging 6.8 per game.
Tyler Harrison is striking out 7.5 batters per contest, while
Emily Glover is retiring 7.2 per game via the punch out. Just as impressive is UAH's low walk rate at just 37 on the season or 1.4 per contest.

ABOUT SHORTER: The Hawks are 21-12 overall and 10-5 in the conference, and the team visits Huntsville with a 5-6 mark in road games. Kameron Carter and Tiffany Holland lead the team with batting averages of .411 and .400, respectively, while Ericka Bynum has driven in 46 runs on the season. In the circle, the team has a staff ERA of 2.85 with Payton Lippert owning a team-best eight wins to go along with a team-high 71 strikeouts.

SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers are 8-5 all-time against Shorter after taking two of the three meetings last year in Rome. When the two teams last met in Huntsville, the two teams split the doubleheader before UAH won the rubber match in 2015.
