HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville tennis teams wrapped up the 2017 home slate in fine fashion on Tuesday with both teams knocking off visiting Christian Brothers. The men's team won 9-0 to move to 9-13 (2-6 Gulf South Conference), while the women's squad was an 8-1 winner to improve to 9-11 (5-4 Gulf South Conference).

Prior to the contests, seniors
Marta Briega,
Marleen Gort, and
Aniek Remmerswaal of the women's team and
Brodie Holmes and
Harrison Stone of the men's team were honored for their time at UAH.

The shutout for the men's team started in doubles play as the third pairing of Stone and
Timo Christen were 8-0 winners, while
Elliot Hopson teamed with
Sebastian Rohrbach for an 8-3 victory at the top spot. At the second, Holmes and
Rodrigo Palomino won 8-6.

Guilherme Coleta cruised to a win in singles play at the sixth as he won 6-0, 6-0, while Hopson won 6-1, 6-0 at the fourth – a score matched by
Noah Pring at the third. It was a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 for
Chris Miller, and Rohrbach at the second and Christen at the fifth both won by identical 6-1, 6-2 scores.

In the women's contest, the Chargers started off brilliantly in doubles play as the second duo of Gort and
Naomi Esteve and the third pairing of
Monika Polakovic and Briega both won 8-0, while at the No. 1
Sarah Stearman and Remmerswaal were 8-1 winners.

The most dominant performance in singles play came from Briega at the fifth spot where she was a 6-0, 6-1 winner, while Esteve at the No. 4 won 6-1, 6-1. Surrendering just three games at the sixth was Polakovic who won 6-3, 6-0, and Stearman was a 6-4, 6-2 victor at the third.

Gort was also a winner as she captured a 6-4, 6-3 win at the top position.

Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday in Decatur where they will square off against rival North Alabama.
