ANOTHER BIG WEEKEND: The No. 16 UAH softball team will once again face a tough test this weekend as it travels to Mississippi College to face an MC team that is just one game back of the Chargers in a tie for third place in the GSC standings. The series starts with a single game slated for 5:30 p.m. on Friday before wrapping up with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday, and the Chargers enter the weekend at 31-11 (17-7 GSC).

AROUND THE GSC: West Florida may have had its long winning streak snapped in a mid-week, non-conference doubleheader at Auburn-Montgomery, but the Argos and UAH enter play this weekend tied at the top of the GSC standings as both teams have identical 17-7 marks, just a game ahead of Valdosta State and MC who are tied for third at 16-8. Lee is just two games out of first with a 15-9 mark that has the Flames fifth, while North Alabama is in sixth at 14-10.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK: The Chargers went 4-1 last week, sweeping a doubleheader from Miles before taking the series from Valdosta State with wins on Saturday of 9-2 and 3-1. VSU captured the final game of the series with a 9-0 win on Sunday.

KEEPING IT IN THE PARK: UAH pitching has been superb on the season, and one indicator of that has been the staff's ability to not give up home runs as the Chargers lead the GSC in fewest given up with just 11. On the year, Tyler Harrison has allowed just four with Emily Glover surrendering just five.

PATIENCE AND POWER: In conference play, the Chargers are the only team to rank in the top three in both slugging percentage and walks. UAH is slugging at a .481 clip in league games which ranks third in the GSC, and the team has drawn a GSC-high 82 walks.

ABOUT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE: Though they have dropped three straight heading into this weekend's series, the Choctaws are 25-16 on the year and 16-8 in league play while boasting an 8-5 record in Clinton. Katherine Lee leads the team in batting average as she hits at a .403 clip, and Carly Crawford has driven in a team-best 35 runs. In the circle, Penny Nichols has a staff-high 11 wins to go along with a 2.38 ERA while also pacing the squad with 48 strikeouts.

SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers hold a 3-2 edge in the brief all-time series with Mississippi College after taking two of three from the Choctaws in Huntsville last year. Two years ago when the teams first met – both in Clinton and overall – UAH split a doubleheader before the series finale was washed out.
