BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's tennis team picked up a thrilling 5-4 win over Division I member The Citadel on Saturday night to close out the regular season. The Chargers move to 10-14 on the season, improving on their win total from a year ago by eight.

In doubles, UAH earned the first point of the night when the top pairing of
Sebastian Rohrbach and
Elliot Hopson were 8-4 winners, but The Citadel quickly leveled the match at 1-1 by winning 8-4 at the second. The Bulldogs then appeared to be on their way to going up 2-1, but
Harrison Stone and
Timo Christen at the third position fought off four match points and eventually won 9-7 to put the Chargers up by one going into singles.

UAH gained a 3-1 lead in the match as
Chris Miller from the No. 1 cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win, but The Citadel then reeled off wins at the fourth, fifth and third to go up 4-3 with two matches still going.

At the sixth,
Guilherme Coleta dropped the opening set 6-3 but rebounded nicely with a 6-0 victory in the second set before finding himself staring at a 4-1 deficit in the third. The freshman then rattled off the next five games to win the third 6-4 and tie the contest at 4-4.

Stretching the match long into the night, Rohrbach at the No. 2 won a grueling 7-6 decision in the opening set by winning the tiebreaker 17-15, and though he would drop the middle frame 6-4, Rohrbach then won the third set 6-4 to seal the match for the Chargers.

UAH will now turn its attention to the 2017 Gulf South Conference Championships where the team will serve as the No. 8 seed and play top-seeded West Florida on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Montgomery.Â
