BACK IN THE ROCKET CITY: The UAH softball team returns to Huntsville this week, welcoming Miles for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday before hosting Valdosta State this weekend in a battle between the top two teams in the Gulf South Conference with both Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game slated for a 1 p.m. start. UAH enters the week at 27-10 (15-6 GSC).
Â
SCHEDULE CHANGE: The start time for Tuesday's doubleheader has been adjusted and is now slated for 3 p.m.
Â
SATURDAY CEREMONY: There will be a special ceremony prior to the doubleheader on Saturday to honor head coach
Les Stuedeman on her 1,000th career victory. The proceedings will start at 12:50 p.m.
Â
RECAPPING LAST WEEK: UAH won its first four games of the week, scoring at least 10 runs in a pair of doubleheader sweeps over Tuskegee and North Alabama before falling in extra innings by a 3-2 margin in the series finale at UNA.
Â
AROUND THE GSC: With Valdosta State dropping two of three at home to Mississippi College, the Blazers and the Chargers moved into a tie for first place as both teams have identical 15-6 marks in league play, but both West Florida – and its 19-game winning streak – and MC are just one game back at 14-7. In fact, only two games separate the top six teams in the league as Lee and North Alabama are tied for fifth at 13-8.
Â
STUNNING SEASON: Kaitlyn Bannister – named the GSC Player of the Year her sophomore year after hitting .341 with 14 doubles, 13 homers, and 59 RBI – is having a senior campaign that is simply phenomenal as she leads the GSC with a .525 average, tied for second with 12 doubles, tops with 12 home runs, and third with 49 RBI. The Albertville, Alabama, native's slugging percentage of .932 is more than 100 points better than the second-best mark in the conference, and she owns a 27-point lead in on-base percentage at .579. Bannister has a hit in 33 of the team's 37 games, and she owns multiple hits in 20 games including seven three-hit showings.
Â
FREE PASSES: After setting the program record for walks last year with 237, the team has once again exhibited a patient approach at the plate this year as the team has drawn a GSC-best 144 walks. Six players have reached double figures in free pasts with Bannister's 19 leading the way while
Reagan Malone and
Tyler Harrison are tied for second with 17.
Â

Â
SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers are 15-0 all-time against Miles after earning a 17-2 win on the season's first weekend. Bannister went 3-for-4 with four RBI in that victory.
Â

VSU swept the Chargers last year in the regular season, and the two teams did not meet in the postseason for the first time since the 2010 season. The two teams last met in the Tennessee Valley in the 2015 regular season when UAH took the series by winning two of the three contests.
