CLINTON, Miss. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville tennis teams traveled to Mississippi College on Sunday, and both teams fell 8-1 in the Gulf South Conference contests. The women drop to 8-11 (4-4 GSC), while the men slip to 8-13 (1-6 GSC).

With other results this weekend, both teams did secure berths at the upcoming GSC Women's and Men's Tennis Championships as the men's squad will be the No. 8 seed in the postseason event while the women's seeding is still to be determined with the team currently in sixth.

On Sunday in the women's match, the Lady Choctaws swept the doubles points to go up 3-0, and the point for UAH in the contest came at the No. 6 in singles as
Marta Briega won 8-3.

UAH was in the hunt for three other points, however, as top-positioned
Marleen Gort,
Sarah Stearman at the fourth, and
Naomi Esteve at the No. 5 contest all forced three sets, and
Cristina Cabanas was leading 5-1 in the opening set at the second spot before she had to unfortunately retire.

In the men's contest, the Chargers also fell behind 3-0 after singles play, and the point for UAH came from the third position in singles action as
Elliot Hopson won 6-7, 7-6, 12-10 in an incredibly tight match.

Timo Christen at the fourth spot won the opening set 6-3, but his opponent squeaked out a 7-6 win in the middle frame and won the point with a 10-6 victory in the third.
The Chargers will be back in action on Tuesday when the teams play their final home matches of the year, welcoming Christian Brothers for a 2 p.m. showdown.
