WELCOME BACK: Following last week's trip to Mississippi to start conference play, the UAH women's soccer team returns back to the friendly confines of Charger Park for a pair of contests this weekend, hosting Valdosta State in a Friday Night Football matchup at 7 p.m. before welcoming No. 6 West Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m. UAH carries a 2-2-0 (1-1-1 Gulf South Conference) record into the two-game set.
RECAPPING LAST WEEK: The Chargers got a solid three points on the road last weekend, easily pushing past Delta State 4-1 before being tripped up by the same score at nationally-ranked Mississippi College.
Sydney Pfankuch was especially strong on the trip, scoring twice and adding an assist to push her season total in points to six.
MAKING IT COUNT: Though the Chargers are being outshot by a difference of more than 10 shots per game, that margin has not led to UAH being outscored as the teams is scoring 2.0 goals per game compared to a scoring average of 1.8 per contest by the opposition.
MINUTES LEADER: Mia Jetsu has been a workhorse for the Chargers through the first four games as the Huntsville native is the only player on the roster to have logged all 90 minutes in each of the four contests. A season ago, she played each minute of 10 of the 16 contests that she started.
ABOUT VALDOSTA STATE: The Lady Blazers visit the Rocket City at 3-0-0 (1-0-0 GSC) after having started league play with a 3-1 win over Montevallo in Valdosta last Friday. VSU is averaging 4.0 goals per contest while holding the opposition to 0.67 goals per game, and reigning GSC Player of the Week Taylor Snell paces the squad with four goals and two assists for 10 points.
SERIES HISTORY: VSU owns a 5-2-0 edge in the relatively brief all-time series with the Chargers, and one of those victories for UAH came in thrilling fashion last year when
Melody Hoernschemeyer scored just 21 seconds into overtime of what had been a scoreless affair to set off a raucous celebration at Charger Park.
ABOUT WEST FLORIDA: The Argos head into GSC play at 3-0-0 on the year entering Friday night's contest at West Alabama, and the team has scored 12 goals while allowing its opponents just one score on the season. Deneisha Blackwood has scored four of UWF's goals on the year, and Katelyn Burkhart has played the vast majority of minutes in goal for the Argos, registering a .889 goals against average.
SERIES HISTORY: UAH continues to look for its first-ever win against the Argos as UWF leads the series 22-0-0. Last year in Pensacola, West Florida was a 4-0 winner.
