TWO MORE AT HOME: The UAH women's soccer team will wrap up its four-game homestand this weekend, welcoming No. 16 North Alabama on Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting West Georgia at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Chargers enter play this week at 3-3-0 (2-2-0 Gulf South Conference).
RECAPPING LAST WEEK: The Chargers split their two matches last week, pushing past previously unbeaten Valdosta State 2-0 before falling to then-No. 6 West Florida 4-0.
AROUND THE GSC: Friday's opponent UNA leads the league with 12 points on the strength of a 4-0 record, while both Lee (3-0) and Mississippi College (3-1) are tied for second with nine points. The Chargers are part of a five-team logjam of those tied for fourth with six points, and the other teams deadlocked with UAH are West Florida (2-0), VSU (2-1), Christian Brothers (2-1), and West Georgia (2-2). Four other teams – Montevallo, West Alabama, Union, and Delta State – have earned three points on the year.
QUITE THE START: To say that UAH's competition to start the season has been strong would be an understatement. When the team meets North Alabama on Friday night, the Lions will be UAH's third nationally-ranked opponent in the last four games, and the Blue and White's first six opponents have combined to go 23-9-1 so far on the year.
A HELPING FOOT: Through just six games,
Riley Ridgeway is already just two off of her career high for assists in a season of six from her freshman campaign as she has notched four on the year. That ranks the senior 16th in the country in total assists, and she is 25th in the nation in assists per game.
ABOUT NORTH ALABAMA: After dropping their first game of the season at Nova Southeastern, the Lions have ripped off five straight wins to sit at 5-1-0 (4-0-0 GSC) while vaulting into the national rankings this week at No. 16. Kylie Huey features a team-high five goals, while Shelby Wall leads the team in points with 11 from four goals and three assists. Posting a 1.53 goals against average, Shelby Thornton has played all but nine minutes in goal for the Lions on the year.
SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers are 8-15-0 all-time against the Lions, and last year's meeting in Florence saw UNA pull out a slim 2-1 victory.
ABOUT WEST GEORGIA: The Wolves head into play this week – which starts at West Alabama on Friday night – with a 2-3 overall mark and a 2-2 record in GSC play. Katie Mitchell leads the team offensively with two goals and an assist, while six other players have scored also.
SERIES HISTORY: In the all-time series with West Georgia, UAH is 3-7-2. The two teams met a year ago also in the Rocket City with an 80th minute goal for UWG proving to be the difference maker in a 2-1 setback for the Chargers.
