UAH Throttles AUM 106-77 to Earn First GSC Road Win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Picking up its first road conference win of the season, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team rolled to a 106-77 victory on the road at Auburn Montgomery on Saturday. The Chargers improve to 12-5 (5-4 Gulf South Conference), while the Warhawks fall to 6-9 (2-6 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-After the hosts scored the first bucket of the second half to cut the UAH lead to single digits, the Chargers went on a 16-0 run over 3:32 to take complete control of the game, and Justin Ward scored 10 of those points as he aided UAH in going 6-for-7 overall from the floor and 4-for-5 during that strong span.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Six different players scored in double figures for the Chargers with the team's senior trio leading the way as Justin Ward scored 18, Chayse Elliott added 15, and Kip Owens scored 14.
-David Anderson came off the bench and went 5-for-8 including three 3-pointers to score 13, while Kerney Lane added 11 and Tanner Finley chipped in with 10.
-Owens and Elliott led the Chargers on the glass grabbing nine and eight rebounds, respectively, while Elliott dished out a team-best six assists.
-Each of Seth Swalve, Dalton Barkley, and Ward handed out four assists, giving the Chargers 27 on the game.
-For the contest, UAH shot 58.0 percent and was 17-for-34 from 3-point land while holding AUM to a 40.3 percent shooting mark, and the Chargers outrebounded the hosts by a 49-27 clip.
-UAH recorded 40 bench points and also held a 21-6 advantage in second chance points.
 
Inside the Flow
-AUM scored 11 of the game's first 15 points to go up 11-4 at the 16:37 mark of the opening half, but UAH answered with three straight from beyond the arc to take its first lead as an Owens triple made it 13-11 just over a minute later.
-After the Warhawks regained the lead at 16-15 with just over 14 minutes left in the first period, the Chargers would go on a terrific 29-10 run over just more than nine minutes, and that strong spurt was punctuated by 14 straight as the Chargers went 12-for-15 from the floor during the span to take a 44-26 lead at the 4:49 mark.
-AUM then responded with an 11-4 run to close the half to make it a 48-37 advantage for the Chargers at the break.
-The aforementioned 16-0 run in the early minutes of the second half pushed UAH out to a 64-39 lead at the 16:06 mark of the period, and an 18-1 run over 4:03 pushed the UAH advantage all the way out to its largest of the night at 41 as the guests cruised to the victory.
 
Noteworthy
-The Chargers have now scored 100 points in consecutive games for the first time since at least the 2002-03 season.
-The 27 assists are a season-best for the Chargers and the most since logging 27 against North Alabama on Jan. 30, 2017, while the 49 rebounds are also a single-game high for UAH this year and the most since grabbing 52 against Trevecca Nazarene on Nov. 30, 2015.
-The 13 points for Anderson marks a career high for the sophomore.
-Elliott has now dished out six assists in three straight games and has totaled 44 on the year.
