UAH Shows Strong Fight in Road Setback at No. 2 UWF

PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team battled toe-to-toe with the nation's second-ranked team on Sunday, dropping a 3-1 decision at West Florida. UAH slips to 3-10-2 (2-7-1 GSC) with the setback, while UWF improves to 14-0-0 (10-0-0 GSC).

Turning Points
-The Chargers grabbed the game's first lead, striking early as Alex Barnett scored in the 10th minute to put the Chargers up 1-0.
-The score would remain that way until the 28th when Jessica Quixley scored to level the contest, but it would not be until the second half that the hosts would take the lead when Sam Waarum scored in the 58th.
-The Chargers remained firmly in the contest until the 89th when Grace Busby iced the game for the Argos while creating the 3-1 final.

Inside the Box Score
-West Florida held a 20-5 edge in shots including a 13-4 edge in attempts that were on goal, and the hosts also established an 8-2 margin in corners.
-Melanie Brannon fired off a team-best two shots.
-Each of Brynn Colvin, Bayle Spring, Barnett, and Brannon were responsible for UAH's shots that were on goal.
-Megan Buford was strong in goal for UAH, posting 10 saves.

Noteworthy
-The goal UAH scored is just the seventh this year permitted by West Florida, and the Chargers are only the second team this season to hold a lead against the Argos.
-Barnett's goal is the second of her career and her first since scoring against Oakwood on Sept. 26, 2016.
-This is the fifth time this season that Buford has made at least 10 saves in a game, and the redshirt sophomore now has 87 saves through 13 contests.

Next Time Out
-UAH will host its final homestand of the year next weekend, starting with a Friday evening visit from Lee. Kick-off at Charger Park is slated for 7:30 p.m.
