HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team earned a victory in its home opener on Saturday, defeating Tennessee Wesleyan 75-67 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers improve to 2-1 on the season, while TWU slips to 4-4.
Turning Point
-UAH scored 16 of the game's first 22 points to go ahead by 10 at the 13:27 mark of the opening half, helping the Chargers lead wire-to-wire as the guests would not close the gap any closer than five the rest of the way.
Inside the Box Score
-Four players scored in double figures for the Chargers, led by
Sam Orf's 14, while both
Seth Swalve and
JJ Kaplan had 12 for UAH.
-Rounding out UAH's double-digit scorers,
Malik Cook-Stroupe came off the bench and scored 11 in the contest.

Tanner Finley paced the home team on the glass, grabbing nine boards while also picking up a pair of steals, and
Dalton Barkley handed out a team-high five assists to go along with seven rebounds and a team-high plus/minus rating of 14.
-For the game, the Charger shot 38.2 percent compared to 42.0 percent for the Bulldogs who were led in scoring on the day by Ty Patterson's 20-point showing.
-The Chargers won the battle on the glass, outrebounding TWU by a 46-39 margin, and UAH was especially strong on the offensive glass, grabbing 17 rebounds on that end.

-Kaplan and Orf hit 3-pointers to open the scoring for the Chargers, and after the team would take the 10-point lead at 16-6, the guests would whittle the deficit down to just five at 22-17 with 7:55 left in the opening half.
-The lead stayed around that margin the rest of the way in the stanza with a
Riley Webster bucket just before the half making it a 37-29 ballgame at the halftime break.
-The lead expanded to as many as 15 in the second half including after a Swalve triple made it 70-55 with 4:30 left in the contest, and though the Bulldogs would pull to within five again with a late push making it 72-67 with 1:20 left, the Chargers would hit three free throws down the stretch to create the 75-67 final.
Noteworthy
-Orf is averaging 16.0 points per game on the young season, leading the Chargers in each of the team's three games in points.
-The 17 offensive rebounds is the most by a UAH team since the team registered that same amount on Nov. 30, 2015, at Trevecca Nazarene.
-The Chargers utilized 14 different players in the contest, including freshmen
Henley Edge and
Ryan McDaniel who made their collegiate debut on Saturday.
