UAH Stumbles in Season Opener in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team, opened the 2018-19 campaign on the road on Saturday, falling 68-58 at host Trevecca Nazarene. The Chargers start the season at 0-1, while TNU improves to 1-3.
 
Turning Point
-With the game tied at 23-23 early in the second quarter, the Trojans would outscore UAH 13-2 over the final 8:16 of the quarter to grab control of the contest.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Aryn Sanders led the Chargers in the game, knocking down ten shots on her way to scoring a team-high 23 points and the junior notched a double-double by grabbing a team-best 12 rebounds.
-In her regular season collegiate debut, Holly Harris was strong on the glass as she collected eight rebounds to go along with three points and a pair of steals.
-Also turning in a strong performance, Katie Speegle scored eight points, grabbed seven rebounds, and swatted away three shots.
-For the game, UAH shot 36.5 percent from the floor, while Trevecca connected on 35.9 percent of its attempts.
-The Chargers exceled on the glass in the contest outrebounding the hosts by a 50-38 margin to help UAH outscore the Trojans 18-8 in second-chance points.
 
Inside the Flow
-The Chargers scored the game's first six points and would lead for the first four minutes. But after an 11-3 run for the hosts gave TNU the advantage, the Trojans would eventually finish the quarter up 19-17.
-UAH would level the contest twice in the early minutes of the second period, but the Trojans would control play through much of the rest of the quarter to take a 36-25 lead into the halftime break.
-In the third quarter, Trevecca outscored the guests 20-14 to take its largest lead of the night at 56-39 going into the fourth frame, and though the Chargers would narrow their deficit to nine on a pair of occasions, the Trojans were able to thwart the comeback effort to hang on for the 68-58 victory.
 
Noteworthy
-For Sanders, this is her third career double-double and her first since Jan. 27th of last season against West Florida.
-The 50 rebounds by the Chargers are the most since the team registered 58 against Oakland City on Dec. 30th last year.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH returns to the hardwood on Monday evening when the squad travels to Kentucky State. That contest is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start in Frankfort.
