Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

UAH Comes From Behind Again, Knocks Off Union 81-75

JACKSON, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team overcame a double-figure deficit for a second straight game, knocking off host Union 81-75 on the road Thursday night. The Chargers improve to 14-8 (7-7 Gulf South Conference), while Union slips to 9-13 (3-11 GSC).

Turning Point
-After a back-and-forth middle of the second half that included the two teams exchanging long runs, the Chargers found themselves down 70-69 with 5:33 left in the game, but UAH then outscored the hosts 12-5 the rest of the way as Justin Ward scored eight of the points in the run to put the game away.

Inside the Box Score
-Ward led the Chargers with 24 points in the game as he went 8-for-12 from the floor and 7-for-9 at the charity stripe, and he also added four rebounds in the contest.
-Three other Chargers scored in double figures with Tanner Finley hitting three big 3-pointers on his way to tallying 15, while Kip Owens added 13 and Sam Orf chipped in with 10.
-Finley also paced the visitors on the glass as he grabbed five rebounds, while Chayse Elliott dished out a team-high four assists.
-Todd Barnes led the Bulldogs in the game as he scored 16.
-For the contest, the Chargers shot 50.9 percent while holding Union to a 41.1 percent mark from the floor, and though UAH hit just eight 3-pointers (on 20 attempts for a still-strong 40.0 percent), the guests outscored the Bulldogs 41-10 in the pain.
-Union edged UAH on the glass, outrebounding the Chargers by a 30-27 margin, and though the Bulldogs grabbed 10 offensive boards to UAH's three, UU had just a 5-4 edge in second chance points.

Inside the Flow
-UAH grabbed an early 4-3 lead, but the hosts would rip off a 7-0 run to go ahead 10-4 at the 15:51 mark of the opening half.
-A 6-0 run for the Chargers would tie the game, and the first half would be tied on two more occasions before another sustained run put the hosts ahead 25-18 with just over nine minutes left in the period.
-UAH would narrow the gap to just four after an Owens 3-pointer with 4:35 on the clock, but the Bulldogs outscored the visitors 13-5 the rest of the half to go into the break leading 46-34.
-Union matched its largest lead of the night right out of the locker room as it went up by 13, and the team would lead by nine at 53-44 with 15:31 left in the game before the Chargers went on a terrific 14-0 run that was punctuated by a pair of Finley 3-pointers that put UAH up 58-53 at the 10:35 mark.
-The Bulldogs answered right back, scoring 10 straight in 2:36 to go ahead 63-58 with just under eight minutes left in the contest, sparking a sequence in which the game would be tied twice and the lead would change hands twice before the big UAH push finished the game off in the win column for the Chargers.

Noteworthy
-Ward has now scored at least 20 in consecutive games for the first time since he did so in five straight from the Tampa contest through the Clark Atlanta game in the beginning of the season, and he is averaging 18.3 points per game to lead UAH.
-Finley has scored at least 13 in three of the team's last four games, and he records his eighth game with at least three 3-pointers.
-Orf reaches double figures for the fifth time this season and for the second time in three games since returning from injury last week against Valdosta State.
-The eight made 3-pointers snap what had been a six-game streak in which UAH had hit at least 10 3-pointers.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will return to action on Saturday when the team travels to Memphis to take on Christian Brothers. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
