A NEW CAMPAIGN: The UAH softball team will start the 2018 campaign this weekend at the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, Alabama, playing six games in three days. On Friday the Chargers will face Rollins at 2:30 p.m. before taking on Spring Hill at 4:45 p.m., while on Saturday the team will face Nova Southeastern at 1:30 p.m. and Barry at 3:45 p.m. The weekend concludes with a 9 a.m. contest against Saint Leo on Sunday before an 11:15 a.m. tilt against Lenoir-Rhyne.

RECAPPING LAST YEAR: The Chargers posted a 42-17 overall record and went 24-9 in conference play to win the Gulf South Conference regular season title. The team – which reached its 15th consecutive NCAA tournament – featured the GSC Player, Pitcher, and Coach of the Year, and also had a National Player of the Year finalist in Kaitlyn Bannister.

KEY RETURNERS: The squad returns six starters from a season ago including three who batted at least .300 led by Reagan Malone who hit .319 a season ago, while Brooke Miller hit seven home runs and drove in 42 runs to top the group of returnees in those categories.

NEW FACES: Of the team's 13 players on the roster, seven are new additions to the program including Shelby Booker and Layton Murphy who were selected as tops newcomers to the GSC earlier this winter. Booker is a freshman infielder from Madison where she played at James Clemens High School, while Murphy is a freshman pitcher who hails from Marbury, Alabama, and Marbury High School.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION: Among this weekend's opponents include a pair nationally-ranked foes in No. 23 Saint Leo who has been tabbed to win the Sunshine State Conference along with Lenoir-Rhyne who is No. 25 in the preseason national poll. Rollins was picked to finish in a tie for fourth in the SSC while Nova Southeastern has been selected sixth in the SSC Preseason Poll with Barry chosen to finish ninth.

SERIES HISTORY: Sunday's contest will mark the first-ever between UAH and Lenoir-Rhyne, but the Chargers have faced every other team on the weekend slate. The squad's record all-time against the opponents is as follows: Rollins, 12-6; Spring Hill, 1-0; Nova Southeastern, 10-3; Barry, 23-13; and Saint Leo, 22-4.
