JACKSON, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell on Thursday night, dropping a 72-56 decision at No. 10 Union. The Chargers slip to 11-10 (5-9 Gulf South Conference), while UU improves to 21-1 (14-0 GSC).

Turning Point
-After UAH cut its deficit to just two points near the midway point of the third quarter, Union went on an 8-0 run over 1:44 to take a 10-point advantage at 47-37 with 3:44 left in the third quarter, and the Bulldogs then did not permit the guests to pull any closer than eight the rest of the way.

Emiline Payne led the Chargers in scoring on the night as she logged 16 on a 6-for-12 performance on the floor, and she was joined in double figures by
Chandler Elder who scored 14 – including 12 in the first half – while also grabbing a team-best 12 rebounds to record a double-double.
-Elder also dished out a team-high four assists, while
Katie Speegle was strong once again on the defensive end as she swatted away four shots in addition to her nine points.
-Leading Union was Chelsey Shumpert who scored 31, while Jada Perkins collected a game-best 14 rebounds.
-For the game, UAH outshot the Bulldogs by a 44.9 percent to 35.7 percent clip from the floor, but Union held two significant advantages: going 12-for-13 at the charity stripe compared to just 4-for-13 for the Chargers while also outscoring the guests 13-0 in second chance points.
-The Bulldogs outrebounded UAH 35-29, but Union held a wider 13-2 difference in offensive boards.

Inside the Flow
-UAH started off hot out of the gates, scoring 11 of the game's first 13 points to take an 11-2 lead at the 6:01 mark of the first quarter, but the hosts then went 6-for-8 from the field over the final minutes of the period to outscore the Chargers 18-8 to take a 20-19 lead into the second quarter.
-The lead would grow to as many as five for the Bulldogs in the second period, but 3-pointers from Elder and
Loren Foster would push the Chargers back in front at 27-26 with 3:34 left in the opening half.
-The Bulldogs, however, closed the half on an 8-1 run to take a 34-28 lead into the locker room at the break.
-The first bucket of the third quarter belonged to the hosts, but the Chargers then went 4-for-5 from the floor while outscoring Union 9-2 over a span of 4:16 to pull within two at 39-37 with 5:28 remaining in the frame.
-Union would then go on a 16-4 run to take its largest lead of the night to that point at 55-41 with only 39 seconds remaining in the third, and though the visitors would close the gap to 65-56 with 2:48 left in the game, the Bulldogs would hold UAH scoreless the rest of the way to preserve the victory.

Noteworthy
-The 16 points for Payne represent a season-best for the freshman who also logged a season-high 38 minutes in the contest.
-Elder logs her fifth double-double of the season, and Thursday night's performance marks the seventh team she has reached double figures in rebounding which she has also done in three of the team's last four games.
-The Chargers held Union under its scoring average of more than 81 points per game in both contests of the season series this year.
