Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

North Alabama Pushes Past UAH in Rivalry's Final Game

FLORENCE, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team fell on the road Saturday, dropping an 87-70 decision at rival North Alabama in the final scheduled game between the two programs. UAH slips to 14-11 (7-10 Gulf South Conference), while UNA improves to 13-11 (8-9 GSC).

Turning Point
-UNA went on a 14-2 run over a span of less than four minutes to turn an eight-point lead into an unsurmountable 20-point advantage at 71-51 with just under eight minutes left in the game.

Inside the Box Score
-Tanner Finley hit seven 3-pointers in the first half en route to scoring a team-best 23 to lead the Chargers in the game, while both Justin Ward and Kip Owens scored 11.
-Ward also led the team on the glass as he grabbed seven rebounds, while Seth Swalve handed out a team-high four assists.
-North Alabama had five score in double figures, paced by Kendall Stafford who scored 22.
-For the game, the Lions outshot UAH by a 54.1 percent to 37.7 clip including a wide 60.7 percent to 28.1 percent difference in the second half.
-UNA also controlled the rebounding battle, grabbing 43 boards to UAH's 25.

Inside the Flow
-UAH scored the game's first points and would eventually lead by as many as seven before the hosts scored seven straight to tie the game at 19-19 at the 9:52 mark of the opening half, but the Chargers would hit three straight triples including a pair from Finley to grab their biggest lead of the afternoon at 28-19 just over a minute later.
-UNA then would go on a run to grab a five-point lead with just under three minutes left, but 3-pointers from Ward and Finley in the closing moments of the half sent UAH into the locker room up 41-40 at the break.
-The Lions then set the tone for the second half, scoring the first eight points of stanza, and though UAH would close the gap to two, the strong push near the midway point of the period put the game out of reach.

Noteworthy
-The 23 points for Finley represent a career-best for the junior, and the seven 3-pointers are the most made by Finley in a single-game in his three years in the Blue and White.
-The contest marks the final scheduled one between the two programs as UNA begins its transition to Division I next season.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be back at it on Wednesday on the road at Lee. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. CDT in Cleveland, Tennessee.
