HOME SWEET HOME: The UAH softball team will open up its Charger Park slate this weekend, welcoming new Gulf South Conference foe Montevallo for a three-game series that starts with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and concludes with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday. The Chargers enter the weekend at 11-5 overall and 3-3 in GSC play.

LAST TIME OUT: In its first conference series of the year, the Chargers bounced back from an opening-game setback to win 4-1 and 7-2 in the Saturday doubleheader at Auburn Montgomery to win the series.

UNSELFISH PLAY: With 21 sacrifice bunts on the year, the Chargers lead the GSC, while individually UAH players hold the top two spots with
Shannon Long ranking first with six and
Taylor Wascavage owning five to place second. Additionally, the Chargers have logged eight sac flies on the year which is the top mark in the GSC, and
Amber Hammonds,
Jada Hayes, and Wascavage all rank tied for 14th in the country in the category with two each on the season.

RACKING UP DUBS: Layton Murphy has already earned eight wins in the circle on the season, earning a decision in 11 of her 13 appearances, and that victory total is tied for the fifth-best mark in all of Division II while leading the GSC.

ABOUT MONTEVALLO: The Falcons enter the weekend on a seven-game winning streak and as owners of a 13-3 (4-2 GSC) record. Mariel Bertossi is batting .545 on the season with three doubles, two triples, and two homers, and she is tied with Kelsey Vining for the team lead in RBI with 15. In the circle, Alexis Bonanno has a 5-2 record to go with a Falcon-best 1.83 ERA while also leading the team with 34 strikeouts.

WELCOME TO THE LEAGUE: Though the university itself is not an unfamiliar face to the GSC, the softball program is as the Falcons started offering the sport in 2015 as members of the Peach Belt Conference.

SERIES HISTORY: The two teams met in that inaugural 2015 season for UM at Montevallo, and the Chargers won both contests to hold a 2-0 edge all-time against the Falcons.
