UAH Slips in Doubleheader to Open Series at West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team was tripped up in both games of a doubleheader at West Florida by scores of 7-2 and 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Jim Spooner Field to open a three-game Gulf South Conference series. UAH dips to 14-12 (8-6 GSC), while UWF rises to 20-9 (10-3 GSC).

Game Changer
- With the game tied at 2-2 entering the bottom of the eighth, West Florida rallied for five runs – highlighted by a three-run home run by Mason Denisen – to take the series opener 7-2.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Chargers registered seven hits during the contest, paced by senior Jay Copeland who went 2-for-4 with one of UAH's two RBI.
- AJ Walden registered the squad's lone extra-base hit, which was a go-ahead solo homer to left in the top of the fifth. He finished the game 1-for-3 with one RBI and one walk.
- Brady Bedingfield, Ben Rhodes, Robby Seemann and Jack Stamper had one hit each in the loss.
- Jake Bracewell had a strong start on the mound for the Chargers, tossing 6.1 innings with two runs
- Dustin Sharp took the loss in relief, as he worked .2 innings out of the bullpen with two walks and one run allowed.

- The Chargers took the first lead of the game on a RBI single to center by Copeland to score Nolan Ramsey.
- West Florida evened the game at 1-1 with a sac fly in the fourth, but UAH returned to the lead with a solo homer by Walden – his seventh of the season – in the top of the fifth.
- The Argos again tied the game on a bases-loaded walk in the sixth before erupting for five runs in the eighth on the way to the 7-2 win.

- Walden now has 44 career homers, moving him into second in program history in career home runs.
- In his last two starts, Bracewell has tossed 13.2 innings with four runs allowed.

Game Changer
- After UAH pulled ahead 2-1 with one run in the fourth, West Florida scored twice in the bottom half of the frame to lead 3-2 on the way to the win in the nightcap of the doubleheader.

- The UAH offense totaled seven hits in game two, led by Copeland who went 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
- Copeland accounted for three of the Chargers four extra-base hits as the senior notched a double in each of this three at-bats.
- Ramsey followed Copeland at the plate going 2-for-2 with one run scored and a double.
- Lance Cleveland and Rhodes each had one walk each, with Cleveland also chipping in one base knock.
- UAH starting pitcher Hunter Hood went 6.0 innings on the mound with one earned run allowed, four strikeouts and one walk.

- Copeland's three doubles are the most by a Chargers in a game this season, and the most in recent program history since Mike Love set the team's single-game record with four doubles against Kentucky State on Feb. 5, 2011.
