Box Score ROME, Ga. | The No. 22 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team dropped the series opener at Shorter on Wednesday, falling 4-1. The Chargers slip to 23-8 (13-6 Gulf South Conference), while the Hawks improve to 13-16 (8-10 GSC).
 
Game Changer
-A two-run homer for Shorter in the first inning would prove to be all the runs that the hosts would need as Payton Lippert went the distance for the Hawks in the circle and limited UAH to five hits.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Two of UAH's hits came from Shelby Booker who also drove in the lone run of the game for the Chargers.
-Brooker Miller, Ashley Cornell, and Shannon Long had the other three hits for the visitors.
-Shorter totaled eight hits in the game.
-Jada Hayes turned in a solid relief effort, going 3.2 innings in the circle and allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out three.
-The Chargers added two stolen bases in the game with Taylor Wascavage and Ashley Cornell picking up the steals.

-The home run in the first put the Hawks up by two, and the score remained that way until the third when Cornell singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a fly out by Reagan Malone, allowing her to score on Booker's two-out base hit.
-The Hawks then tacked onto the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom frame of the third that created the eventual 4-1 final.
-The Chargers would threaten in each of the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, stranding a pair on base in each of the frames.

-Booker now has 43 hits on the year which is tops on the team, and she is now batting .430 with 22 RBI.
-The Chargers have totaled 88 stolen bases on the year.
