BUSY WEEK: The UAH softball team will play five games this week, starting with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against non-conference foe Tuskegee at Charger Park on Wednesday. The Chargers will then hit the road for a conference series, playing a doubleheader at 2 p.m. CST on Saturday at No. 23 Valdosta State before wrapping up the series with a 12 p.m. CDT contest on Sunday. UAH enters the week at 13-6 (5-4 Gulf South Conference).

LAST TIME OUT: The Chargers made it two straight conference series wins as the team took two of three from Montevallo in the 2018 Charger Park debut for UAH last weekend. UAH picked up a 9-1 win and an 11-10 victory in the doubleheader before being tripped up 11-8 in the series finale.

AROUND THE GSC: North Alabama – in its final season in the league – leads the conference at a perfect 8-0, while VSU sits in second at 7-2. Shorter is in third by a half game with its 5-3 record besting a four-team logjam at fourth where Montevallo, Auburn Montgomery, West Georgia and UAH all sit at 5-4.

STARTING STRONG: Kiara Akles is off to a fantastic start to her freshman season as she has driven in 21 runs on the year to rank tied for fourth in the GSC, while her seven home runs rank second in the conference. In conference games only, the reigning GSC Freshman of the Week's total of four home runs is tied for the league lead.

COMING HOME: Freshman
Amber Hammonds has scored 18 times through the first month of play, ranking her tied for fifth in the conference in runs scored. She has crossed the plate in 14 of UAH's 19 games including four games in which she has scored a pair of runs.

STEADY DEFENSE: Despite having a youthful roster of 10 players that are either freshmen or sophomores and an infield that features at times three players who did not play their position a year ago, the Chargers rank fourth in the GSC heading into action this week with a fielding percentage of .963. The team has committed just 20 errors on the year and have had just none or just one miscue in 14 of the team's 19 games.

ABOUT TUSKEGEE: The Golden Tigers are 2-16 on the year heading into Wednesday's twin-billing. Cecelia Tennessee paces the team with a .333 average at the plate, while Chelsea Mowery has driven in a team-high 13 runs.

ABOUT VALDOSTA STATE: The Lady Blazers welcome UAH this weekend sitting at 17-4 on the season including a 7-2 mark in conference play. Jessica Mohl is batting .458 and has scored 24 times to lead VSU, while Taylor Hartenbach has knocked in 23 runs on the strength of seven homers. In the circle, Kasie Johnson has a team-low 1.48 ERA, and Ashtin Strickland leads VSU with 25 strikeouts.

SERIES HISTORY: After taking three of their four meetings last year, the Chargers lead the all-time series by a 64-47 margin. All four games took place in the Rocket City including a 4-3 victory for UAH in the semifinals of the GSC tournament on May 7.
