Chargers Split Doubleheader with Lions on Saturday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team opened its final Gulf South Conference series of the regular season on Saturday by splitting a doubleheader against rival North Alabama as the Lions took game one 5-3 before the Chargers won 6-4 in the nightcap. UAH moves to 23-22 (12-16 GSC), while UNA now sits at 31-16 (19-10 GSC).

- UAH and North Alabama wrap up the three-game set and the regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Charger Park. UAH baseball will honor its 2018 senior class prior to the start of the series finale.

Game Changer
- After taking a 4-3 edge with a single unearned run in the top of the fifth, North Alabama proceeded to win game one of the series by a 5-3 final, thanks in part to a complete-game performance by the Lions starting pitcher Tyler Joyner.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Chargers totaled eight hits in game one of the series, paced by seniors Brady Bedingfield and AJ Walden who each had two base hits.
- Robby Seemann finished with a game-high three RBI, one run scored and one base hit which was a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth.
- Will Acuff, Tanner Burns and Jay Copeland each chipped in one hit as well, with Burns also notching both of the Chargers steals.
- Bedingfield drew the team's lone walk of the day.
- Hunter Hood made the start on the mound for the Chargers, turning in 2.0 innings with two runs allowed and four strikeouts.
- Taylor Clemons had a strong relief outing with 6.1 innings, two earned runs allowed and four strikeouts, despite accruing the loss to drop his season record to 2-2.

- North Alabama scored one run apiece in the first, second and third innings to own an early 3-0 advantage.
- The Chargers evened the game at 3-3 on one swing of the bat in the bottom of the third, as Seemann launched a three-run homer off the left-field foul pole.
- UNA took advantage of a fielding error by the Chargers in the top of the fifth to lead 4-3 before posting an insurance run in the top of the ninth for the 5-3 win.

Game Changer
- The Chargers scored in each of the first four innings – including a three-run first that featured a solo home run by Ben Rhodes and a two-run jack by Nolan Ramsey – on the way to the 6-4 win in game two of the doubleheader.

- UAH registered six hits in the victory in game two on Saturday, paced by Nolan Ramsey who went 2-for-3 with a team-high two runs and two RBI.
- One of two Chargers to hit a homer in game two, Rhodes went 1-for-2 with one run, one RBI and one walk.
- Drake Hollingsworth collected the Chargers third extra-base hit of the evening as he went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
