Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 23 Nova Southeastern Wins 5-2 Over UAH on Sunday

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team showed significant improvement on Sunday morning, but No. 23 Nova Southeastern proved to be a tough test as the Sharks won 5-2 in the neutral site game held at Tusculum. UAH slips to 0-2 on the year, while NSU improves to 2-1.

Turning Points
-UAH controlled the early action of the contest, but a goal for NSU in the 17th minute started a spurt of scoring that saw the Sharks score three times in just under four minutes to grab a 3-0 lead in the 20th minute.
-Following a hydration break that allowed the team to settle its nerves, UAH would get one of the goals back as Jessica Bissinger and Annie Burd assisted on Melanie Brannon's goal to give the Chargers their first goal of the season and make it a 3-1 game in the 24th minute.
-Nova Southeastern, however, responded less than 30 seconds later, going back up by three at 4-1, and the score would remain that through the halftime break.
-The Chargers would trim the deficit back down to two just over five minutes into the second half when Amanda Elsey scored off a deflection, but NSU scored in the 60th to create the eventual 5-2 final.

Inside the Box Score
-Nova Southeastern outshot the Chargers by a 32-8 margin, but UAH was much more opportunistic with its opportunities on Sunday as five of the eight attempts were on goal after the team managed just two shots on target on Friday.
-The Sharks put 14 shots on goal, and UAH keeper Izzy Huddleston turned aside nine of them.
-Both Brynn Colvin and Elsey paced the Chargers with a pair of shots, and both were on frame for Elsey as she led the team in that category.
-Corners in the contest were tilted in NSU's favor by a 3-0 margin.

Noteworthy
-Brannon's goal is the first for the freshman from Alabaster, Alabama.
-Elsey's score is the fourth of her career and the first for her since she scored the dramatic game-winner in the final minute of regulation against Christian Brothers on Oct. 13 of last season.
-The assist for Burd is her first of the season and represents the eighth point in her career, while Bissinger's helper is the Franklin, Tennessee, native's first collegiate point.

Next Time Out
-UAH will continue action next Friday afternoon when it travels to Illinois to face McKendree. Kick-off is slated for 2 p.m.
