Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rainy Conditions No Concern for UAH in 2-0 Win Over Union

MADISON, Ala. | A last-minute venue change necessitated by heavy downpours at Charger Park proved to be no burden for The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team on Tuesday as the Chargers knocked off visiting Union 2-0 in the game played on the artificial surface at Bob Jones High School. UAH improves to 2-6-1 (1-3-0 Gulf South Conference), while UU slips to 0-6-0 (0-4-0 GSC).

Turning Points
-With the game scoreless through the first 80 minutes and overtime looming as a possibility, Melanie Brannon completed a nice run down the left side of the box, chipping it past the keeper, and giving UAH a 1-0 lead in the 81st minute.
-The Chargers then picked up insurance when Rachel Collins scored on a long shot from more than 30 yards out in the 86th to create the 2-0 final.

Inside the Box Score
-UAH used a 7-4 advantage in shots in the first half to end the game outshooting the Bulldogs by a 10-6 clip, and UAH's sustained pressure through the game led to a 7-1 advantage in corners.
-Devyn Thompson led the Chargers with three shots – including one off the crossbar in the 38th minute that came quite close to crossing the goal line on its way down.
-Megan Buford made a pair of saves while picking up the shutout in goal for UAH.

Noteworthy
-Brannon now has a team-best six goals on the season which ranks her tied for third in the conference in total goals, and her two game-winning tallies tie her for second in the league.
-Collins scores in a second consecutive game, and that makes her the fourth Charger this year to have multiple goals on the season.
-The clean sheet is Buford's second in her career, and it is the first in conference play for the Chargers since a 2-0 blanking of Valdosta State at home last season on Sept. 15.

Next Time Out
-UAH will continue GSC play on the road this weekend with a two-game swing through the Peach State that starts on Friday at Valdosta State. Kick-off at VSU is slated for 6 p.m. CDT.
