UAH Douses Flames in Big Saturday Road Win at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team earned a statement road victory on Saturday, rolling past host Lee 75-58. The Chargers improve to 12-4 (5-3 Gulf South Conference), while Lee slips to 9-7 (6-2 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-With UAH leading 40-36 at the 13:44 mark of the second half, the Chargers ripped off an 11-0 run that featured three consecutive 3-pointers by Max Shulman that put the guests ahead by double figures the rest of the way.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Five different Chargers scored in double figures, led by Sam Orf's double-double performance of 25 points and 10 rebounds as he knocked down seven shots including a pair of triples.
-Both Shulman and Malik Cook-Stroupe went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc to score 12, while Seth Swalve went 4-for-6 to score 11.
-Dalton Barkley rounded out the double-figure scorers by chipping in with 10.
-Swalve added a team-high five assists.
-UAH shot 47.8 percent for the contest including going 10-for-24 from 3-point land, and a terrific defensive effort by the Chargers limited Lee to a shooting mark of just 39.6 percent which included a 2-for-11 showing from deep.
-The Chargers led on the glass, outrebounding the Flames by a 33-24 margin.
-UAH's bench outscored Lee's reserves by a 26-10 margin.
 
Inside the Flow
-Lee scored the first four points of the game and led for the first seven minutes before the Chargers pulled into a 9-9 tie at the 13:01 mark of the half, and after Shulman's first 3 of the game gave UAH its first lead at the 12:39 mark, the lead would exchange hands twice more.
-With the game tied at 19-19 with just under seven minutes to go in the period, the Chargers would go on a 14-7 run to go up by seven after a Cook-Stroupe trey made it 33-26 with 1:23, and UAH would go into the half leading 35-30.
-The Flames pulled within one early in the second half as the Chargers could not get a bucket to fall for nearly four minutes to start the stanza, but after the big run featuring Shulman's long-range exploits, the guests would go on to lead by as many as 20 before securing the 75-58 win.
 
Noteworthy
-The double-double for Orf is the second of the season as the sophomore matches his rebounding total from the road contest at Oakand City.
-Shulman – playing near his hometown of Chattanooga – matches his season high as the redshirt freshman also had 12 points against Trevecca Nazarene.
-The Chargers knocked down a season-high 21 free throws while also earning a season-best 27 attempts at the line.
-UAH is now 11-0 when recording at least 10 triples in a game.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be back at it on Thursday when the team returns home to face West Alabama. Tip-off at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall is slated for 7:30 p.m.
