CLEVELAND, Miss. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team nearly completed a terrific comeback effort but fell just short on a last-second shot in a 71-68 setback at Delta State on Thursday night. The Chargers slip to 7-9 (5-5 Gulf South Conference) with the loss, while DSU improves to 11-7 (6-5 GSC).

Turning Point
-Delta State's Alondrea Rush stole the ball and heaved up a desperation shot from the free throw line that fell with 0.5 seconds remaining in the game and then knocked down a free throw to break a tie and create the 71-68 final.

Holly Harris led the Chargers in the game, going 7-for-11 and 4-for-8 from 3-point land – including the game-tying 3 late – on her way to scoring 19, and
Baylee Johnson joined her in double figures with 15 points.
-The Chargers were led on the glass by
Katie Speegle who grabbed eight rebounds, while
Emiline Payne handed out a team-high four assists.
-For the game, UAH shot 45.0 percent from the floor with DSU connecting on 45.5 percent of its attempts, and the Lady Statesmen won the rebounding battle by a 42-32 margin.
-UAH turned the ball over just 12 times in the contest and recorded 17 assists on its 27 made shots.

Inside the Flow
-Delta State grabbed an early hold of the contest, going in front 25-10 at the end of the first quarter, and the Lady Statesmen would push the lead out to its largest of the night at 21 at the 4:14 mark of the second quarter.
-UAH would, however, quickly narrow the gap to just 10 and by making five of its last seven field goals of the period, the gap was a manageable 12 at 40-28 going into the halftime break.
-The Chargers would close the gap to single digits on a pair of occasions in the third quarter before DSU took a 58-45 lead into the fourth, and the Lady Statesmen went back up by 15 at 60-45 with 9:42 left in the game.
-UAH then ripped off a 20-6 run over the next seven minutes to pull within one at 66-65 at the 2:31 mark, and though Delta State would go back up by three with 28 seconds left, Harris would drain a corner triple to tie the game at 68-68.
-After a defensive rebound on the ensuing possession for the Chargers, Rush then stole the ball away and scored to create the 71-68 final.

Noteworthy
-The 19 points for Harris match a season-best for the Franklin, Tennessee, native who also scored 19 against Christian Brothers on Jan. 7 in Memphis, and she knocked down four treys for the third time this season.
-The 17 assists for the Chargers are the third-highest total on the year, just one behind the 18 that the team registered against both Anderson and Spring Hill.
