JACKSON, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team put up a valiant effort on the road at the nation's top-ranked team on Saturday, but No. 1 Union used a late push to secure a 76-70 victory. The Chargers slip to 4-7 (2-3 Gulf South Conference), while the Bulldogs improve to 13-1 (5-1 GSC).

-With the Chargers leading 64-59 just under three minutes into the fourth quarter, Union would go on a 17-6 run the rest of the way to earn the win.

-Four different Chargers scored in double figures led by
Baylee Johnson who scored 16 while also grabbing five rebounds, and she was joined by fellow senior
Morgan Tipton who added 14.
-A pair of juniors logged double-doubles in the contest with
Katie Speegle scoring 11 and adding 10 rebounds, a team-best four assists, and a pair of blocks, while
Aryn Sanders scored 10, grabbed 10 boards, and picked up a team-best three steals.
-For the game, UAH shot 40.6 percent from the floor compared to a 42.9 percent mark for the hosts.
-The Chargers outrebounded the Bulldogs by a 40-34 margin, and 10 of UAH's rebounds came on the offensive glass.
-The UAH bench outscored Union's reserves by a 23-10 margin, and the Chargers held a 34-26 advantage on points in the paint.

-Union enjoyed an early 7-3 lead, but a 9-0 run for the Chargers turned that deficit into a 12-7 lead after a
Heidi Miller put-back at the 4:06 mark of the opening quarter fell.
-The Bulldogs would respond and grab a 21-14 lead by the end of the frame, and though UAH would fall behind by as many as 10 in the second, the Chargers would narrow the gap to just three at 37-34 by the half.

Holly Harris triple out of the break tied the game and sparked perhaps UAH's best stretch of basketball of the season as the Chargers outscored Union 22-7 over the first 5:55 of the third quarter to go up 56-44 by the 4:05 mark thanks to a stretch that saw the guests go 8-for-12 including four 3s while turning it over just once.
-Union pulled back within four by the end of the third at 60-56 and then closed to within one on the first bucket of the fourth quarter, and though the Chargers would score the next four points to go back up by five at 64-61 with 7:42 left, Union would retake the lead with 4:38 on the clock on its way to taking the victory.

-The offensive performance for UAH was nearly 12 points better than Union's opposition average of 57.1 per game on the year.
-Sanders now has four double-doubles on the season, while Speegle's is her third of the year.
-Johnson has scored in double figures in seven straight games, is averaging 13.5 points per game, and now owns 972 points for her career.
