HUNTSVILLE | Securing its first win of the season in the 2019-20 home opener, The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team used a high-scoring first half to push past visiting Spring Hill by an 85-67 score at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers improve to 1-2 on the season, while SHC falls to 0-4.

-The Chargers held Spring Hill to just nine points while scoring 28 of their own in a huge first quarter, setting the tone for the remainder of the contest.

-A trio of Chargers scored 18 points each as each of
Holly Harris,
Selena Pruitt, and
Katie Speegle knocked down seven shots on their way to leading the team in scoring.
-Both Harris and Pruitt were 4-for-7 from beyond the arc, while Speegle was also strong on the glass as she grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.

Emiline Payne handed out a team-high six assists while also scoring six and grabbing six boards.
-The Chargers shot an astonishing 73.3 percent in the first quarter on their way to logging a shooting mark of 52.3 percent in the game, and the hosts were a strong 10-for-20 from 3-point land.
-The guests shot 40.7 percent overall for the game and were led by Elise Reilly who knocked down 10 3-pointers and scored 38 points.
-The Chargers won the battle on the glass by a 36-35 margin.
-In addition to UAH's hot shooting from long range, the Chargers also dominated in the paint, outscoring SHC by a 44-16 margin.

-Establishing a strong lead right out of the gates, UAH scored the game's first 10 points, and after limiting Spring Hill to just three made buckets in the first 10 minutes, the Chargers were on top 28-9 going in the second quarter.
-An
Alexis Woods layup at the 4:02 mark of the second stanza combined with a defensive performance that allowed just one field goal though more than seven minutes gave UAH a 32-point lead at 43-11 before the teams went into the locker room at the half with the Chargers leading 47-18.
-The lead grew to as many as 35 in the third quarter for UAH, and the hosts were on top 67-39 going into the final frame.
-With the game well in hand, SHC outscored UAH by a 28-18 clip in the fourth to create the 85-67 final.

Noteworthy
-Harris now has now scored in double figures in each of the team's first three games, and the sophomore is pacing the squad with 15.7 points per game.
-The 18 points for Pruitt represent a career high for the sophomore.
-The 52.3 percent shooting mark for the team is its best since shooting 53.1 percent against Montevallo on Feb. 9 of last season, and the team shot better than Wednesday night's showing just twice last year.
-The field goal percentage by the Chargers is the highest so far by a Gulf South Conference team this season as is the team's 50.0 percent mark from 3-point land.
-UAH now has 43 offensive rebounds on the year, and the 14.3 boards on the offensive end ranks fourth in the GSC.
-The Chargers more than doubled the number of assists the team recorded in the season's first two games, logging 17 on Wednesday night compared to 13 this past weekend in Florida.
