UAH Drops 75-60 Decision at Anderson on Saturday

ANDERSON, S.C. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team went on the road on Saturday and fell to host Anderson by a 75-60 score. The Chargers slip to 1-3, while AU improves to 4-0.
 
Turning Point
-After UAH had cut its deficit to just four at 45-41 with 5:23 remaining in the third quarter, the hosts would close out the period on a 14-5 run on their way to leading in double figures the rest of the way.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Aryn Sanders led a pair of Chargers the finished in double figures in scoring as she was 5-for-10 from the floor to score 15 while also matching Alexis Woods with a team-best six rebounds, and Sanders also added a team-high four steals.
-Selena Pruitt knocked down four of her seven attempts from beyond the arc to score 13.
-The Chargers turned the ball over just five times in the contest.
-For the game, UAH shot 32.8 percent overall and 23.1 percent from 3-point land, while Anderson connected on 40.0 percent of all of its attempts while hitting just 37.5 percent of its long-range shots.
-The Trojans won the battle on the glass by a 59-28 margin.
-Alexy Mollenhauer led the hosts with 24 points and 18 rebounds.
-A significant difference in the game came in second-chance points as AU held a 21-6 advantage after grabbing 17 offensive rebounds.
 
Inside the Flow
-The Trojans built up as much as a nine-point lead in the first quarter, but an Emiline Payne triple followed by a buzzer-beating layup from Sanders cut the margin to just four at 22-18 going in the second.
-UAH would narrow the gap to just three early in the second stanza, but Anderson responded by going in front by as many as 14 en route to holding a 40-30 lead at the halftime break.
-An 8-0 run early in the third quarter that featured alternating baskets from Katie Speegle and Holly Harris pulled the Chargers within the aforementioned four-point margin at 45-41 before the hosts went on the strong run to go ahead 59-46 going into the final frame.
-UAH then was unable to pull no closer than 11 in the fourth quarter as the Trojans secured the victory.
 
Noteworthy
-The five turnovers are the fewest by a UAH team since Dec. 17, 2016, when the team gave it away just three times.
-Sanders is now averaging 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest to lead UAH in both categories. 
-Pruitt is connecting on 3-point tries at a 47.1 percent clip, and she is tied for the lead in the GSC in 3-point field goal percentage.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will play another non-conference opponent on Thursday when Trevecca Nazarene visits Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. Tip-off in the Rocket City is slated for 5:30 p.m.
