No. 11 UAH Stuns Clark Atlanta with Second-Half Comeback

ATLANTA | Despite trailing by as many as 30 points, the No. 11 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team completed an impressive second-half comeback on the road, pushing past Clark Atlanta by a 74-71 score on Tuesday night. The Chargers improve to 3-0 on the season, while CAU slips to 0-5.

Turning Point
-The Chargers outscored the Panthers by a 52-22 margin to erase what was a 49-22 deficit at the half, with a Max Shulman 3-pointer at the 2:08 mark putting the Chargers ahead by one before Triston Chambers sank a pair of free throws with four seconds left to seal the contest.

Inside the Box Score
-Both Chambers and Sam Orf finished the contest with 17 points as two of five Chargers who reached double figures in the contest.
-Chambers came off the bench and knocked down a team-best four 3-pointers to score his 17, while Orf hit three from downtown while also matching JJ Kaplan and Shulman with a team-high three assists.
-Seth Swalve was 4-for-7 from the field to score 12, while Kaplan went 5-for-7 and snagged a team-high six rebounds to go along with his 10 points.
-Shulman rounded out UAH's double-figure scorers as he also added 10.
-The Chargers shot 60.7 percent in the second half to finish the night shooting 46.3 percent, and UAH limited CAU to just two second-half triples after the Panthers had made 10 in the first half, giving the hosts an overall shooting mark of 48.1 percent for the game.
-The Panthers narrowly won the battle on the glass, outrebounding UAH by a 33-32 clip.
-The Chargers outscored CAU in points in the paint (24-18), points off turnovers (21-14), bench points (31-26), and second-chance points (12-9).

Inside the Flow
-Shooting 59.4 percent overall and going 10-for-18 from 3-point land, Clark Atlanta dominated the opening 20 minutes, going by as many as 30 before carrying a 49-22 lead into the locker room at the break.
-A 3-pointer from Orf at the 17:26 mark of the second half capped off a quick 10-2 spurt to narrow the gap to 19 at 51-32, and an 11-0 run later in the frame pulled the Chargers back within single digits when Chambers assisted on a Swalve triple to make it 60-51 with 11:44 left in the game.
-The Chargers would continue to whittle away at the deficit, and an old-fashioned 3-point play for Orf with 2:39 remaining in the game knotted the affair at 69-69.
-CAU briefly regained the lead on the ensuing possession, but the guests had an immediate answer as Shulman's 3-point try fell with 2:08 left to put the Chargers ahead 72-71.
-The teams would trade a pair of missed opportunities at the free throw line in the closing moments before Chambers iced the contest with his two successful attempts at the charity stripe in the final seconds.

Noteworthy
-Chambers is now leading the team in scoring by averaging 17.0 points per contest over his first three games, and he is shooting a blistering 64.3 percent from downtown.
-After scoring just nine points in UAH's first two contests, Orf nearly doubles his season scoring output thanks to his strong second-half showing on Tuesday night.
-UAH – who went 17-1 a year ago when making 10 or more 3-pointers – reached double figures in 3-pointers made for the first time this season.

Next Time Out
-UAH will now turn its attention to its first conference game and first home tilt of the season as the Chargers welcome West Georgia to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
