Chargers Roll Past Shorter on Saturday to Earn 10th GSC Win

ROME, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team cruised to a road win on Saturday, blowing past host Shorter 78-45. The Chargers improve to 12-11 (10-7 Gulf South Conference) with the victory, while the Hawks fall to 1-21 (0-16 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-UAH scored the first 14 points of the game and never looked back in leading wire-to-wire in the dominant road win.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Baylee Johnson once again led the Chargers as she knocked down eight shots on her way to scoring 24 points while also grabbing five rebounds and handing out two assists.
-Joining her in double figures by going 6-for-8 from 3-point land, Holly Harris added 20 points.
-Aryn Sanders scored 11 and had six rebounds, while Selena Pruitt was 4-for-6 to score 10 to round out UAH's double-figure scorers.
-Morgan Tipton was especially strong on the glass, grabbing eight rebounds to help UAH build up a 36-27 advantage in rebounding on the day.
-Emiline Payne handed out a team-best four of UAH's 13 assists.
-For the game, the Chargers shot 52.0 percent including shooting 60 percent of better in three of the four quarters, and the team held Shorter to a shooting mark of 25.8 percent.
-A total of 10 players scored for the Chargers in the game.
 
Inside the Flow
-UAH stormed out of the gates, starting the game with the 14-0 run on its way to leading 19-8 going into the second, and after shooting 64.3 percent in the second quarter, the Chargers would lead by as many as 17 points before taking a 42-26 lead into the halftime break.
-The Chargers hit three consecutive 3-pointers out of the break to push the lead to 51-26 by the 8:05 mark, and UAH's margin pushed all the way out to 32 points in the stanza, leading to a 66-36 advantage with three quarters complete.
-The lead ballooned all the way out to 36 in the fourth before the game ended with the Chargers winning by the 78-45 final.
 
Noteworthy
-Johnson has scored 24 in consecutive games, and in a stretch of 10 straight games in double figures, the senior has scored more than 20 in seven different contests.
-Harris hits a season-best six 3-pointers, and she has made 22 treys in the team's last five games.
-Tipton establishes a season high in rebounds with the eight.
-This is the third time that the Chargers have shot better than 50 percent on the season, and UAH is 3-0 in those games.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH starts its final homestand of the season on Thursday when rival Montevallo visits. Tip-off at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall is slated for 5:30 p.m.
