Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Chargers Earn 20th Win with 88-66 Romp Past Visiting Montevallo on Thursday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team used a bevy of 3-pointers to roll past visiting Montevallo on Thursday night, winning 88-66 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The win – UAH's eighth in its past 10 games – pushes the Chargers to 20-6 (13-5 Gulf South Conference), while the Falcons fall to 9-19 (5-13 GSC).

Turning Point
-The Chargers shot a blistering 74.1 percent in the first half including an otherworldly 12-for-17 from beyond the arc in the period to establish a commanding 57-38 advantage by the halftime break.

Inside the Box Score
-In his penultimate regular season home game, Tanner Finley knocked down seven 3-pointers – including five in the first half – on his way to scoring a team-best 25 points, and the senior added five rebounds for good measure.
-Sophomore Sam Orf went 8-for-14 from the floor and joined Finley in double figures with 20.
-Three Chargers – Seth Swalve, Malik Cook-Stroupe, and Max Shulman – added eight, while JJ Kaplan nearly had a double-double with nine rebounds to go along with seven points.
-Swalve also narrowly missed out on a double-double as he dished out a team-high nine assists.
-UAH finished the game shooting 57.4 percent overall and 47.2 percent from long-range with a total of 17 made 3-pointers, and the team held Montevallo to a 35.7 percent shooting mark in the second half to give the Falcons a 45.9 percent night overall.
-The Chargers won the battle on the glass by a 31-30 margin.

Inside the Flow
-UAH set the tone early, hitting its first 3-pointer on the night on its first possession as Dalton Barkley drained one, and back-to-back triples from Orf gave the Chargers a 16-6 lead by the 15:43 mark of the opening period.
-UAH pushed ahead by as many as 27 with Finley's last trey of the first half giving the Chargers a 57-33 lead with just under a minute left, and the guests ended the half on a quick 5-0 spurt to make it a 57-38 game at the break.
-The Chargers started off the second off slowly, allowing Montevallo to pull within 11 at 60-49 with 13:35 remaining in the game, but UAH then held the guests to just six points in the next 10 minutes, causing the margin to balloon to 27 when Shulman's 3 pushed UAH out to an 82-55 lead with 3:42 left to allow the hosts to cruise to the victory.

Noteworthy
-The 25 points for Finley mark a career-best for the Madison, Alabama, native, and the seven made 3-pointers match his personal best which he established last season against North Alabama on Feb. 10.
-This is Orf's sixth outing this year in which he has scored at least 20 points, and this is the fifth time he has made four triples in a contest.
-The nine assists for Swalve mark his second-best total of the season.
-The Chargers move to 13-0 when making at least 10 3-pointers in a game.
