Chargers Stumble in 70-60 Setback at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell on the road on Thursday night, dropping a 70-60 decision to host West Alabama. The Chargers slip to 10-10 (8-6 Gulf South Conference), while UWA improves to 10-12 (7-8 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-A 16-3 run that spanned the end of the first and start of the second quarters turned an 11-point lead for the Chargers into a two-point advantage for the hosts by the 5:43 mark, and UWA would not relinquish that lead the rest of the way.
 
Inside the Box Score
-UAH was led on the night by Baylee Johnson who scored 27 thanks in part to five made 3-pointers, and the senior added five rebounds along with an assist, steal, and block.
-Joining Johnson in double figures were Aryn Sanders who scored 14 to go along with a team-best eight rebounds, while Holly Harris knocked down four triples and scored 12 while handing out a team-high three assists.
-For the contest, the Chargers shot 36.2 percent while UWA connected on 50 percent of its attempts.
-The Tigers won the rebounding battle by a 39-33 margin.
 
Inside the Flow
-The Chargers scored the first eight points of the game en route to building up a 14-3 advantage by the 4:10 mark of the opening quarter, but UWA would narrow the margin to just five at 15-10 by the quarter break.
-UWA would go in front in the second, eventually leading by as many as four points in the frame before taking a 29-26 advantage into the locker room at the half.
-The hosts then outscored UAH 19-9 in the third stanza to go up 48-35 going into the fourth.
-The Tigers pushed the lead out to as many as 17 in the fourth before UAH would pull back within single digits late, making it a 66-58 game with just under a minute left, but the deficit was too much to overcome as UWA held on for the 70-60 win.
 
Noteworthy
-Johnson has now scored at least 20 points in five of her past seven outings, and the 27-point showing matches her previous season-high which came against UWA at home in January.
-Harris logs four 3-pointers in a game for the fourth time this season to match her season-best.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be back in action on Saturday against rivals Montevallo. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
