UAH Sweeps Doubleheader to Open Series Against Valdosta State

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of Valdosta State on Saturday afternoon with a pair of wins by scores of 7-6 and 9-5 to open a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Charger Park. UAH improves to 16-11 (7-6 GSC), while VSU dips to 14-15 (4-9 GSC).

Game-Changer
- After Valdosta State evened the game at 6-6 with four runs in the eighth, UAH walked off in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double by Tyler McCown which plated Zach Duvall from second for the 7-6 victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Palmer Ford and Zach Duvall led the way for the Chargers offense with two hits apiece, as each player also drove in one run.
- Ford additionally posted a team-high two runs scored and a home run, while Duvall drew one of the Chargers two walks and had a roster-best two steals.
- A total of eight Chargers had at least one base hit, and six of those players had one RBI.
- McCown finished the game 1-for-3 with one RBI and the walk-off double. He was also hit by a pitch two times in the contest.

- With VSU ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, UAH proceeded to rally for five runs that featured RBI base hits by Malave Bettinger, Jack Stamper, Brett Barbee and Zach Duvall to take a 5-2 lead.
- Ford's solo home run to left in the bottom of the fifth put UAH ahead 6-2, before a four-run rally by the Blazers in the eighth knotted the game at 6-6.
- UAH went on to take the opening game of the series 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth on McCown's walk-off RBI double.

- Ford's homer was his second of the season.
- This was UAH's first walk-off win of the season.

Game-Changer
- The Chargers sent a total of 13 batters to the plate in an eight-run fourth inning which propelled UAH to a 9-5 victory over VSU in game two of the doubleheader.

- UAH totaled seven base hits in the 9-5 victory, as Jack Stamper led the way with a 2-for-4 performance with a double, two RBI and one run scored.
- Nolan Ramsey and Tyler McCown each went 1-for-2 with two RBI one run scored and a walk to tie Stamper for the team lead in runs driven in.
- Drake Hollingsworth drew a team-high two walks while scoring one run.
