UAH Stumbles at Home Against Montevallo on Saturday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Montevallo on Saturday night, dropping a 14-5 decision in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Chargers slip to 1-8 (0-4 GLVC), while the Falcons improve to 4-7 (1-2 GLVC).
 
Turning Point
-The visiting Falcons scored five times in the first six minutes of the game to establish control in the contest.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Zach Ranta led the Chargers offensively with a goal and an assist, while each of Brody Phillips, Adam Zois, Preston Deno, and Jacob Glen also scored.
-Jax Looby added an assist.
-Jake Fowler grabbed a team-high eight ground balls and was 15-for-22 in faceoffs.
-John Forrest Ruble created a team-best three turnovers, while Colton Nall caused a pair while also collecting seven ground balls.
-UAH outshot the visitors by a 47-43 margin, though UM held a 24-18 edge in shots on goal.
-Phillips and Glen fired off a team-high three attempts on frame.
-UAH was 17-for-20 in clear attempts, while the Falcons were 22-for-29.
-The Chargers picked up 41 ground balls compared to 27 for Montevallo.
 
Inside the Flow
-After the Falcons scored the five straight to open the game, Glen scored a man-up goal just prior to the end of the first quarter, and Phillips tallied just over a minute into the second to make it a 5-2 game.
-The rest of the quarter was scoreless until Montevallo scored with under a minute remaining to give the Falcons a 6-2 lead at the halftime break.
-After the guests scored two straight to start the third, Looby assisted on Deno's man-up goal at the 7:35 mark before UM scored twice more in the period to go up 10-3 heading into the fourth.
-Montevallo scored three times to open the final stanza before Ranta scored with 10:09 left, and after the Falcons added their 14th, Zois scored with just three seconds left in the contest to create the 14-5 final.
 
Noteworthy
-Phillips is now second on the team with 11 points as he scored his ninth goal of the season which also is good for second in goals.
-Zois tallies his eighth goal of the season.
-Fowler has 21 ground balls in the past two games, taking over first on the team with 44 on the year.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will square off against Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday in Huntsville. That contest is slated for a 5 p.m. start at Charger Park.
