Jewell and Johnson Garner GSC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference unveiled its first weekly track & field awards for the 2019 outdoor campaign on Wednesday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's track & field team was represented by Erin Jewell as GSC Field Athlete of the Week and Jade Johnson as GSC Freshman of the Week.
 
Jewell had an outstanding start to the outdoor schedule on Saturday at the UAH Charger Open with program records and NCAA provisional marks in a pair of events, as she registered 13.99 meters in the shot put and 45.60 meters in the discus to top the records Jewell previously set last season.
 
She now ranks second nationally in the shot put and third in the nation in the discus.
 
Johnson also opened the outdoor campaign with a bevy of strong performances, highlighted by a program-record 11.11 meters for first place in the triple jump on Saturday. She additionally placed first in 100 meter hurdles (15.55) and the high jump (1.58 meters), while earning second in the long jump (5.05 meters).
 
UAH looks ahead to the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee, on March 15-16.
