UAH Posts Two Victories on First Day of 2019 Campaign

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team opened the 2019 campaign at home with the UAH Invitational, presented by the Huntsville Sports Commission, picking up a 3-0 win over Lees-McRae and a 3-1 victory over West Georgia in a nonconference tilt.

Turning Point
- The Chargers turned in a 25-17 victory in the opening frame and did not look back, as the squad captured wins of 25-15 and 25-19 in the ensuing frames while collecting 13 or more kills with hitting percentages of .290 or higher in each set.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Isabelle Barnes paced the Chargers attack with a team-high 10 kills on a .563 hitting percentage in addition to tying for the roster lead with two total blocks.
- Ali Lowe followed Barnes with eight kills and a .438 hitting percentage while also adding two total blocks.
- The Chargers had seven players with multi-kill performances.
- Freshman Shayla Libby anchored the defense with 13 digs, followed by Abby Brooks and Sabrina Duncan with eight scoops apiece.
- Duncan registered a team-high 22 assists and four service aces in the contest.

- UAH's defense limited LMC to a .103 hitting percentage for the match.

- After two narrow sets had the match evened at 1-1, UAH gained a 2-1 lead with a 25-19 win in the third and proceeded to open the fourth stanza with a 7-2 run on the way to the match-clinching 25-22 victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Chargers had a trio of players excel on the attack, led by freshman Molly Presnell with a team-high 17 kills on a .359 hitting percentage in addition to rating third on the roster with 14 digs.
- Abby Brooks was second on the squad with 16 kills, followed by Isabelle Barnes with 15 successful swats on a team-best .414 hitting percentage.
- Kennedy Sellers provided a roster-best 17 digs and five service aces in the victory.
- Shayla Libby finished second to Sellers with 16 digs.
- Sabrina Duncan notched a double-double with 51 assists and 12 digs in addition to contributing two service aces and one block.
- Barnes paced the UAH defense with seven total blocks.
- Four Chargers had two or more total blocks.

- Presnell's double-double with 17 kills and 14 digs is the first of her career.
