UAH Earns First-Ever Win at Delta State on Thursday

CLEVELAND, Miss. | For the first time in program history, The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team has won at Delta State as the Chargers knocked off the Lady Statesmen 68-67 on Thursday night. The Chargers improve to 10-8 (7-5 Gulf South Conference) with the win, while DSU slips to 14-5 (7-5 GSC).

Turning Point
-With Delta State going up by nine with just 2:31 left in the second quarter, the Chargers would go on an 8-0 run to completely change the tone of the game heading into a second half that would see UAH outscore DSU by two key points in securing the win.

Inside the Box Score
-The Chargers were led in the game by Aryn Sanders and Selena Pruitt who both scored 18, while Holly Harris added 10.
-Both Pruitt and Harris knocked down three 3-pointers as the squad shot 10-for-20 overall from beyond the arc.
-Emilyne Payne led the Chargers on the glass as she grabbed 11 rebounds, while Pruitt was also strong on the boards as she collected seven in the contest.
-Payne also handed out a team-high five assists.
-For the game, the Chargers shot 49.0 percent against the usually strong defensively DSU, while the Lady Statesmen connected on 43.1 percent of their attempts including going 2-for-9 from 3-point land.
-DSU won the rebounding battle by a 41-33 margin.
-A key difference in the tight game was UAH's 16-15 edge in points off turnovers along with its 9-0 edge in points scored by the teams' reserves.

Inside the Flow
-UAH made the first two shots of the game to jump out to an early 5-0 lead, but Delta State would go up by as many as seven in the first quarter before the Chargers trimmed it to a 20-16 deficit going into the second.
-The lead for DSU grew to as many as nine at 35-26 with 2:31 left in the quarter, but the Chargers would score eight straight including a Katie Speegle 3-pointer right before the end of the period to pull within one at 35-34 at the halftime break.
-A Sanders bucket at the 8:29 mark of the third would give the Chargers a brief lead, and after DSU went back ahead, another Sanders layup with 7:05 left would give the guests a lead they would not yield back the rest of the stanza, leading by as many as six before going into the fourth tied at 51-51.
-In the final period, Delta State would go up by as many as four, but the Chargers would eventually regain the lead when an and-one for Sanders put the team up 63-62 with 2:09 left in the contest.
-The Chargers would get another layup from Sanders and a pair of free throws from Payne and another from Pruitt would help the Chargers seal the victory.

Noteworthy
-The Chargers have now won three straight over Delta State and have won five of the last eight meetings between the two programs.
-This is the fourth time this season that the Chargers have made 10 3-pointers, and the 50.0 percent performance from long-range matches the team's showing against Spring Hill as the best of the year.
-The 11 rebounds for Payne represent a career-best for the junior.
-This is the 10th time this year that Pruitt has scored in double figures, and it is the 13th time that Sanders has scored 10 or more.
